The pressure was too much!
I know I promised to wait untill 9 went gold but I had to get 'em!
This is one of the(MANY) presets included.

It's called Hellpool in the Demo section, but to get this, I unplugged the color & luminosity inputs, plugged the color output into a mixer node at 200% additive &
plugged that into diffuse shading.

call me stupid, but is there a proper way to install the nodal textures? the traditional IFW2 shaders had an elaborate instruction. thanks in advance...

they come as a set of plug-ins.
Just put them in a directory of your choice(I put mine in Plugins/third_Party)
& add them in layout.

This is the new robot that is hidden in the new 9 content rendered out with one distant light (255,255,255) and a ground object of the same colour. I have added the IFW2 Occlusion Nodal to the diffusion chanel for all of the textures. The camera is set to a 5pass render.

Same as Warren if the builder does not mind (it is in the lights dir of the LW9 content.)
Please just give your required resolution and format and where to send it, or just lift it from above if you want.

Sweet plugins by the way and well worth the $$.

:agree:
Also need to add that the model of the LW logo came on the cd that was in
Lightwave 3D 8 Texturing by Leigh van der Byl.

Guys, if you can do say a width of 1024 or 1280 that would be great and send them to shadersrjj@aol.com. Please enclose any text you want like your name, websites, etc. plus the models and make sure they're credited.

Thanks
RJJ

Hey RJJ,

Is IFW2 Nodal considered an upgrade from the standard edition or a separate product?

We have a site licence for IFW2 and I'm wondering how much I need Keith to cough up for us to have the nodal version too!

Cheers,

Simon

A couple of follow on images of that great robot after doing a little reading of the boards here.
I have re-rendered the bot using the same settings as before without the occlusion at 1280x1024.

With Occlusion
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/Barred/Bot_b.jpg

Then in photoshop I have applied the Occlusion over the non Occlusion layer and used Luminosity http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/Barred/Bot_lumin.jpg

Using the Occlusion layer to multiply

Enjoy

RJJ the uncompressed iimages are on thier way to you.

I've got to be honest Barred, I can't see what effect the occlusion is having. The non-occlusion version and the occlusion version look very similar to me.

Could you post a version with just the pure occlusion result?

Sure Blitz here you go. The main light is on to give me the shadow only and at 10%. I have stripped all textures and just applied the occlusion to the diffuse channel.

Thanks for posting the image Barred. Hopefully I don't sound too critical but I don't think the occlusion effect is working too well on that model with the current settings.
I'd expect a lot more darkness in the circular joints of the model. Also the inset area of the main jaws is shaded unevenly (the occlusion effect is evident on the bottom left corner of the inset area but not the other sides of the inset area).

I took bot_a into photoshop, added bot_b as a layer and set the layer to difference. When you do that you can see only three areas on the robot that have a profound occlusion effect.
I wonder if there are some settings in the node that would improve the result? I have IFW2_textures and not Nodal so I don't know what the differences/changes are?

I haven't been playing with occlusion yet but it seems to me the nodes offer a lot more control.
I've been playing with the regional textures & haven't gotten really practical yet.:)

I have only had LW 9 and this was my first attempt with the IFW nodes. I am just getting 'into' them.

I am waiting on my hard copies of the manuals as I do not like pdf files so I tought I would give Nodals a try whilst waiting.

And Bliz no offence taken :)
