I'm trying to move an object and I keep getting an error message: " Not enough memory for that operation" Do I need to increase my virtual memory? I'm running XP Pro, 2gig Ram. I also get this message when trying to save " incremental" I have plenty of hard drive left. HELP PLEASE!

How many polys is the object? My home PC is only 1 GB and I get slow-downs at 60K polys in modeler (layout runs fine for me at 100K polys) but no faults like that (yet!).

Just to be sure, since both programs have an Incremental option, are we talking about Modeler or Layout?

What do you have the Bounding Box Threshold set to?

What kind of graphics card do you have, and how much memory does it have?

Hi Jim,
More info would help - are there a lot of texture images? How many polygons? Are you using heavy duty subdivision?

If you have not got enough physical memory, a bigger swap file will be of limited use... One big clue is if your hard drive light is flickering away, (or worse yet, on all the time!).

I have been able to get a lort more LW stuff into my 1 Gb memory PC by switching every image map possible to indexed PNG format images. This made a HUGE difference, as I can now get many 9000x9000 pixel images in. This is particularly handy for bump maps where there will be no loss of quality involved...

You can also release some memory by rendering from the command line with LWSN, which loses all the overhead of the layout program.

How long was the work session? Try saving your work, shutting down the computer, reboot and continue. The Undo function in lightwave eats memory. Doing lots of operations on a large model can eat it up. Also, Microsoft operating systems are notorious for poor memory management.

My sincere thanks to you all for the help. Apparently I didn't give you all the info I should have. I turn 60 this month so I plead advancing senility, sorry. This is all in modeler. My object is 70,500 polys. I don't know how to adjust the bounding box threshold so I assume it's at the default. my grapics card is a Nvidia GForce FX5500 with 128M. I did lose 5K polys by doing a reduce poly operation. And saving/restarting did make the error message go away. Oh, if you can't tell, I'm a total newbie as well as senile. again many thanks.

Thats not a lot of polygons. Any big image maps? Say, over 1500x1500 pixels?

No imagemaps at all, Starbase1. I'm sure my problems are self-induced by my lack of knowledge of LW. Any advice/suggestions are appreciated.

Hey there Jim. It's cool to hear that all ages of users are abound using LW. :)

What kind of RAM do you have? If you're using PC100 or PC133, it just be a bottleneck on your system, I know I had similar problems last year due to using older RAM.

Hey Jim, age is irrelevant, for the simple reason, half of us here are off our rockers. ;) :p
