Once in a while I feel like I'm the only one doing what I'm doing. What's everyone else using Toaster for?
Right now we're using TED to edit a feature length documentary.
Recently, we edited several 10-15 minute featurettes for a DVD release.
I also use it to pull together video footage for music shows and home movies to go to DVD.

There was a recent similarly-themed thread.
What do you use your Toaster for? (http://www.newtek.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52146&)

maddogmike: your not alone.
I have edited 3 feature length indy films over the last 4 years.
It is a rough job, but someone has to do it.

Does editing "fake" commercials for use inside of a feature length movie count? Did some of those. Would have loved to have edited the movie itself after watching the mega-bucks AVID software that they were using continually crash. Oh well, it paid very well and my wife loved the new bedroom suite that I was able to buy from the proceeds.

Up here in Canada I have used the VT4 for many National commercials and 60-minute TV specials, which were broadcast on national TV Networks.
Working on my next project in HD, hoping to edit it on VT5.
I’ve edited on almost all NEL systems out their nothing comes close to VT4.

Just a footnote:
My edit Suite is out in the backcountry of northern Alberta on an acreage.
Its in a straw bale building which is great for up here as it can get very cold. Heating cost are nil as the equipment keeps the place warm, a wind generator and solar panels supply’s some of my electricity.
Clients love to drive out here to do their post work, as the deer and coyotes keep them entertained while I edit. The last 2 Years the suite has been going 24hrs a days. Location location location
Thanks to the Video Toaster, living and working out here makes for a great life style.

We do mostly commercials for broadcast but we do a handfull of 5-20 minute corporate/marketing video's as well.
Week after next we are doing a New York, Tampa, Oklahoma, Denver shoot for a billion dollar company to be posted on our VT's.
After a couple months with our new GFX guy, he finally admitted that he would hate to work on his beloved FCP with a client. After doing several projects on our VT's, he can see the light.
Another hard headed FCP guy convinced! I hope he doesn't see this! :D

Lately, I've been doing longform DVD's for homevideo release, and film trailers. I'll start doing more broadcast promos and commercials soon. My entire 30 minute demo reel is split into different sections of www.sharpcut.com

My TV has only 1 video input and I wanted to connect a VCR, DVD and Laserdisc to it, so I went the eccentric way and bought myself a VT4 (2 actually, in case one breaks)...
Kidding! :)

Built a complete mobile production studio around the VT3, would be very compact except for the need for people to sit and watch the monitors. Had to get a bigger vehicle for it so I installed everything in an extended Ford van.
Use the setup for Ultimate Fighting style events and such.

That is not carpentry... it is actually allot of metal work. Custom build 19" rack system with built in slanted table top. Mounted to the interior of the Van with wire management and electrical work. Carpeted walls and vinyl floor.
I have the entire build on time lapse, very cool.
Had allot of fun building it too!

I am housed in a municipal recreation center. We record ice events, hockey games etc, each rink has 4 cameras. We also manage the PEG channel from here, which is running on a seperate VT4 system. Couldn't have done any of it without the VT.

Are those robotic cameras you're using ?

Yes. Sony EVI D100, they do the job, although the contrast between the bright white ice and dark uniforms is sometimes tough to tame. We have an XL2 that we use for a tripod mounted camera, giving us 5 total angles, when I can staff a 2nd position. I send the output of the VT to Toshiba HDD recorders and have the DVD ready for sale by the end of the day.

Yeah, I know that problem well. I did some consulting work for a NPO a while back and they had a remote setup in City Hall that was similar to that setup. They had all sorts of problems trying to match cameras and resolve the backlit situations. Spending a little more money on capable equipment for the install would've saved a lot of trouble, but as is the case with many of these funded NPO's out there, the activists in charge know very little about the technical aspect of television..... they are just interested in getting their "message" out. :phone_cal :D
Wow did you buya 3rd Channel yet? :)

Been so busy, I haven't even been by the forums much. I have my own independent Video Biz, LightPlay Productions in L.A. I do a little independent VT Training, switching, etc., and Demo sometimes for DV Warehouse.
But, most of the time I work in partnership with Ross Hunt Productions in Studio City. I do a lot of demo reels for actors, directors, etc. Some independent short films, and Infomercials. We also have a Play Trinity, (still good for multi-camera Virtual Set shoots in real-time). Satisfied Customers include Alyssa Milano, Robert Forster, Ana de la Reguera, Kevin Dobson, Todd Bridges, Chris Atkins, Chuck McCann, Richard Rossi, & Marty Kove, to name-drop a few. And we Chroma Keyed Frank Pesce in front of a new background each week for his movie reviews on the Tony Danza show.
I'm really loking forward to Speed Edit and expanding into HD.
Peace and Love to all.
