Processing Power

I have been using a 1.4 AMD chip with a GForce 3 I have been doing animation for equipment. Rendering the 1.5 minute segments have been taking without raytracing and only medium anti-aliasing up to 23 hours. I am looking to go to 4 machines 2.4 with one running Win 2k and the other 3 networked running Linix 9 in order to get better rendering times to allow better rendering. Any thoughts

I did some tests with linux (redhat 8). But I wasn't very happy with the speed. Actualy I think it is even slowler than Windows. But maybe this is only for me.

I had also problems with memory segments. I did not discover how to configure the memory segments under linux (maybe there is a solution for that).

So for me, even if I need to spend some bucket for the os and it is a bit painful to maintain, I would choose to have the render farm running under windows.

Keep in mind also that most commercial or free but non bundled plugins are not yet compiled for linux.
