This was a quick lighting experiment following some glass tests I did and I liked the result.............

I like these kind of simple things, it looks good. It's a bit grainy and lacking in depth but you did say it was an experiment.

The refraction of the glass surfaces worked out really well. I like it.

Heh, heh. The grainy look makes me think of Vue renders.:D

Thanks.
I actually added the grain in post so I've attached the original.......

Question: Is there a specific reason you would add grain to a picture like that?

I try different methods in Photoshop to get rid of the cg look.
Sometimes it works sometimes not! I'm still learning :)

Yeah. A little grain always looks good. As Iain stated, it can sometimes remove some of the CG look.

You don't really need grain to get rid of the CG look. There are a number of options to make it non-CG in appearance without losing the quality.

Good antialiasing does the trick for me in a lot of cases. Volumetrics help a lot, too. For video, motion blur adds some realism to motion. Sometimes gradients help with a number of things.

These are just some of the ways to do it.

:yoda: Know the ways of the tools.:yoda:

I don't have any problem taking my renders into Photoshop for some tweaking.
No matter how finished they look, I always like to add something else.
I see it as part of the process in creating what is, after all, a 2d image.

I know there's lots of tricks within the 3d app itself but I find volumetrics, caustics and lens flares a bit cheesy in 98% of cases to be honest. They're overused and often exaggerated for effect.
(Just my opinion!) :)

Simple, but I like it to a quite unreasonable degree!
