Inertia Deformer

I'm trying to do a simple tutorial with the inertia deformer in layout. I've done item properties-deform through setting the inertia lag. I get the bounding box, but when I run the animation, I get no deformation. I see the bounding box lagging behind the actual movement, but there is no geometry change. Any suggestions?

You have to set your subdivsion order to something other then first in the object properties panel.
