Hello All;
I am trying to dump a 58 minute production to DVD and my friends who are reviewing the videos I'm making say that the Video tears up, and the sound sounds terrible. It is driving me crazy because this video we're creating has to look awesome, and also I have done the exact same thing with smaller productions without any complaints.

Here's what I do. See if you detect something I am doing wrong.

I create the production in ToasterEdit and render out to an uncompressed .RTV file. Then I run this file through TMPEGENC Plus version 2.58.44.152 (Which I purchased) with the .RTV plug-in. Since the file is almost 60 minutes, I use the setting "CBR 6000 bps DVD". Then, once the MPEG-2 is created, I load it into Dazzle's DVD Complete program to burn the DVD.

Everything works fine with smaller programs but for some reason, this large production just doesn't provide good audio and video quality. M am using Memorex DVD-R's because they have given me good results in the past. My DVD-R burner is a Pioneer A-04.

Anyobne have a betgter way to do this, or does anyone detect something I am doing wrong or setting wrong for this 58 minute production ? Purchasing a higher cost DVD burning software is not an option at this point.

Thanks for any advice you can rpovide. Due to the cost of DVD-R's I do not have the money to spend to experiment a lot so it would be nice to get some tips on things that work for other people who use the Toaster to create long DVD's (Like a lots of you, I'm sure).

Thanks Much. Tim

Check the TEMPGenc web site, they have some upgrades that say they fix some audio issues and other bugs.

First of all, check out my article on DVD production with Toaster called "Toasting DVDs" in issue #7 of NewtekPro magazine. If you don't happen to have that, drop me an e-mail and I'll send you the article. video.at.scorpioproductions.com

I get gorgeous results with Toaster>TMPGEnc>DVD Workshop.

The latest version of TMPGEnc is up to 2.512. You can download free upgrades from their website. And yes, 2.512 is newer than 2.58... Sometimes I don't like their numbering scheme... I am using this version and it works fine.

You don't mention what type of audio you are using. One thing to be certain of is that you are using 48kHz for your audio in Toaster, since this is required for DVDs and converting it later can cause problems. You also don't mention what format you are creating the audio as in TMPGEnc. If you are using MPEG-1 Layer 2 for the audio, set it for 192kb/s.

With this setting you can fit 60 minutes of video at a CBR of 8000kb/s for the video.

Also, be sure that you have "Motion Detection" set to "High Quality".

Again, there are a ton of things to check. You really need to read my article.

Burning DVDs is much more art than science.
