I am in the phase of learning use multiple cameras and I don't want to start a bad technique/starting point. Since its much easier to stay focused on a NULL then to move the HPB around like a jackass, I am using Multiple cameras and switching between them @ certain frames. However, since I will end up with multiple camera's I want to make sure the only computation being processed is the processes looking through the active camera.

Can someone please confirm or deny this? Also is there a way to unparent/untarget something that has already been parented or targeted? Maybe in scene editor the graph editor?

Thank you

Eagerly Awaint for LW9(which i hope has good support for macs..not all of us can afford G5's:) So I will build a quad opteron instead. I hope it has been written for the future(multi core/multiprocessing)

No. Like any other 3D program, LW will only render one cam per scene. This is the camera that was active when you saved the scene. This means you can still animate your scen as one scene, but need to split it up into multiple ones for rendering, each with the proper camera and render range. In other programs the split isn't necessary, but you always have to assign an explicit render cam (e.g. in the Render Globals in Maya).

You can use "Parent in Place" to parent/ unparent objects and maintaining their world position, but it will not work correctly with animation (for obvious reasons). You can maintain the targeting only by baking you camera's motion either in the graph editor or using motion baker.

Add Master Plug-In, Camera Selector. Allows you to switch to different cameras at your chosen keyframe. Also network friendly (I believe).

Yes it will render FROM multi cameras, no it won't render TO multi files

hmmm i already know about camera selector. I think i might have confused people on this one;)

I am wondering if render times will go high because i have a lot of cameras(only 1 active @ a time obviously) in the scene. So if i have CAM1 and use Camera Selector to render the rest of of the scene with CAM2, will it still render what goes through CAM1? I dont mean display it on the screen...i just mean...will it figure out all the angles for the light and textures and blah blah blah...

Thanks for the replys

your answers contradicted yourself;) maybe i shoudl specify. Will lightwave still process the angles, textures, lighting, reflection, etc that is in the non active camera?(which in turn would slow down my system...).

long story short...is it bad(render time wise) to have multiple(like 20 or so) camera's per scene?

Additional cameras should not have any effect on render times. But just test it out for yourself, render a frame with one camera and then with 20, and see what happens.

As far as parenting goes, if you go to the motion options (hit 'm' in layout), add the Parenter. This allows you to dynamically parent and unparent objects as you wish. I won't go into this further, as the manual will explain it in detail.

okay thank you... and nice signature!
