:help: hi, im currently (as in right now) REALLY confused about how to take the background off an animation,
I need to add an animated model ontop of a video and i have NO idea how to make the background disapear?
(im using LW8, after effects 6.5 and premire pro 1.5)
can anyone help? all i have is my 3d model with a blackbackground, do i take this off in LW or do i take it off in after effects??? either way i cant do it, and i need this animation finished within the next couple of hours.
sorry if this is really simple, but im quite new to this, ill post a few JPEGS after its finished if people want.
any help would be GREATLY appreciated!! thanks everyone!!

go to the object properties of your object and click unseen by camera. of course, there are just many ways to set your scene (casting shadows) but hope that gets you started.

no, i WANT the object t be seen, but i dont want the background,
basically what i have is a collection of animated objects and some real world footage
i want to put the objects ontop of my real world footage so it looks like they have already been there.
but its ok, its all been sorted now, the problem was i was dragging and dropping the files into AE and not acctually importing them.
so it assumed that i wanted my alpha chanel as a matte colour,
if i went through te program and clicked import it asked me what i wanted to set my alpha as, if i chose "striaght" then it gives me a lovely transparent background.
jobs a good un.
but thanks anyway mate!!

G'day Chris,:D
I'm glad you got your background transparency figured out so quickly. I posted the same question just a few days ago. If you would like to see my question and responses from other Lightwavers, go to General Support and look for Tansparent Background in Lightwave 8.5 Layout. Actually, I realized a few days ago that I'm only up to v8.3, but that's besides the point. Well, anyway, I did not have the luxury to bring my animation into after effects or Premiere. I was doing a 3-D logo for a client and he had Media 100 for a MAC and I have LW running on a PC. To make a long story short, I ended up saving the individual rendered frames as 32-bit .tif files, clearing the scene, and then, bringing the frames into an empty scene as a sequence of images as a background. From there it was just a quick easy re-render, this time saving it as a Quicktime .mov file. My client thought it was great, because all he had to do was bring the .mov file in and set up an Alpha channel in his Media 100 video editing package and... there's his transparent background. I love the quick responses you can get from fellow Lightwavers.
Got to go for now, but hope to stay in touch. THREEL, but you can call me Al
