after waiting for answers from forum-mods, i'll just ask everybody
where the heck did the 19mb update disappear to?
it was available for just 1-2 days on the newtek-ftp, and was soon replaced by the current 15mb update, which doesn't include some documentation and the updated linux screamernet client
could you be so kind to tell us, where to get this updated version?
and what's the reason for changing the intel-update file without updating the download-html?
i wanted to test my linux network for rendering capabilities for the last 8 days but wasn't able to get any results.
7.5b screamernet client is just too buggy to be seriously evaluated

doesn't anyone have the same problem as i?
or could someone at least say something?
...i almost feel like a victim of a great conspiracy :D

Maybe NT is sleeping on... laurels?
I've personally found only the 15mb update.
Sorry.

I have to say, NewTek's silence on this issue is disappointing. The addition of the Linux renderer in 7.5b was a pleasant surprise, but the follow through has been underwhelming.

nothing new
but could anyone on this board be so kind to upload the rpm-package somewhere?
if he has it, of course

Is the Linux ScreamerNet software significantly different between 7.5b and 7.5c? If not why don't you download the 7.5b update from ftp://ftp.newtek.com ?

well, since i was searching for the package for the last 3 weeks, i'm aware of the fact, that, although newtek released the 7.5b lwsn with many renderbugs, the 7.5c release fixed many of them, making linux lwsn quite usable on cheap linux renderfarms.
and if you search newtek-ftp for a 7.5b package, you won't find it. and i'm not willing to download the 7.5b update, installing it just to get the 7.5b package
(beside i already have it)
:o

7.5b Update: ftp://ftp.newtek.com/pub/Patches/LightWave_Windows/lw75b/LW75bUpdate.zip 18.8 mb
Also, you don't have to install 7.5b - it's a zip file with the installer and the Linux renderer as separate items.
Still don't know for sure whether there's a difference between the 7.5b/7.5c Linux packages though... Chuck? Like to clarify this?
Oh, and while you're at it, where's the Discovery Edition download?
Sorry, couldn't resist! :D

The first difference I see is that the Linux renderer in 7.5c was compiled with Intel C++ 7.0, whereas 7.5b was compiled with 6.0. You can tell by the dependence on libcxa.so.3, rather than libcxa.so.1.
I have been able to get both 7.5b and 7.5c to work, but only in mode 3. The controller can see the node in mode 2, but can't complete negotiation. Unless I manually edit the ack file to say "Ready," LW will crash Windows 98.
Rendering a simple scene from Larry Shultz's Intro to LightWave course, 7.5b and 7.5c both report the following errors:
Error: No plug-in of type EnvironmentHandler found with name LW_TextureEnvironment.
Error: No plug-in of type PixelFilterHandler found with name .PF_DOFBlur.
Error: No plug-in of type ImageFilterHandler found with name LW_DOFBlur.
Additionally, 7.5b reports the following errors:
Error: Cannot load external plug-in file </usr/share/lwsn-7.5b/plugins/utility/custobjects.p>.
Error: Cannot load external plug-in file </usr/share/lwsn-7.5b/plugins/effect/zblur.p>.
The actual render is missing the background, which had a simple, two-layer procedural texture to simulate a sky. Interestingly, 7.5b rendered in 83 seconds on a K6-3+ 450, compared to 130 seconds in 7.5c, and the resulting PNG images are identical. However, benchmarking may be premature, as neither version generated a correct image. I can generate an image instantaneously, if it doesn't have to be correct.
I'm still wrestling with lwsn on Windows, so I can't meaningfully compare Linux to Windows.
Edit: I changed the formatting of the lwsn output because it was a bit wide.

@aegis
thx for the link to the 7.5b update! i never would've been able to find this file! even if i don't need it anymore, now i can just download 18mb! what great fun!
besides, if you want to know the differences between 7.5b and 7.5c lwsn under linux, just go to http://www.rayserver.com and check the review of alain betrand
there you'll see that you're not able to get a decent render vom 7.5b

Hey, I checked really quick in my backups and found the LW75cIntelUpdate.zip that is 19.8mb (downloaded same day of release)
email if you still need it,
Regards,
RJ
The .rpm is only around 5 MB and I do have it here :
lwsn-7.5c-584.i386.rpm
I'm mildly surprised it's compiled for i386 although it may be for compatibility cf compiling for, say, Pentium generation processors. *shrug*
Anyway, assuming NewTek have no issues with this being made available, I'll be happy to upload it somewhere.
