Well I've taken the plunge and just ordered my VT 4.6 (inc. to VT 5) software upgrade. Currently running a VT 2.

But I have a couple of questions firstly I know there has been lots of improvements from VT2 to VT 4.6 but which would anyone like to say has been of major benfit you have noticed?

Also is the VT classed as an ONLINE edit bay? I read this alot in studios blurb and it seems they charge BIG money for the priverlige of there systems being "online" or is this only related to full film 2K editing? And if so with VT 5 allowing HD editing (at much higher resolutions) will this now make it a "online" bay?

cheers for any replies.

Regarding your question about the greatest improvements:

Z-axis rotation
Tool Shed
Control Tree
Splines
image quality when zooming in on video or stills.

These are just a couple. You will be very happy with your upgrade.

VT and other systems like it have pretty much relegated the classifications of Online and Offline edit to the junkpile. Since you are digitizing at your working resolution and editing in realtime, there is no need to do a lo-rez (offline) edit and then recapture and re-render in hi-rez for final output. Sorta reminds me of the definition of "Broadcast Quality".....

VT is "Online, all the time ! " :D

I too recently upgraded from the VT2...and I'll admit, I was relunctant after some of my experiences with the VT2.

But it's got to be said...VT4.6 is rocking my editing work. And I haven't even cracked open the new manuals yet! I'm just going by what I learned while training for use of the VT2.

I've played with some of the new stuff I noticed right away...the tool shed with it's color matching and more is just awesome and the fact that eveything else is working is awesome.

Mine arrived today forgot about the manual! it's huge! :D

I had VT 101 DVD for VT2 but now I've a big papery thing hopefully me knowledge will increase dramatically (always needed something explaining Aura anyway :) )the most under used software on my PC by all accounts.

Looking forward to a good read
