Hi!

I am new to Lightwave 3D 8 and are now following the DVD tutorial "Lightwave 3D 8 - From the begining" which is a very good stuff, but I wonder why I can't import an eps-file (SmallDials.eps) (File>Import>ESFP loader..) into Modeller?
Hope to hear some hints out there. Thank you! :stumped:

It's possible that your EPS file is of too new a revision for LightWave? Make sure it is saved as a version 8 or lower EPS - I tend to do mine all as version 6 eps files and they always work. You should also make sure that you have no blends and that text is converted to paths to bring in to LightWave.

Hi, again!
But how can I save it as an older version when I can only open in the only other program that I have Photoshop Elements 4.0?

Ahh, are you trying to import an EPS file saved from Elements? That won't work, since essentially it is still a kind of bitmap file, not a pure vectorial one. LightWave only imports vectorial EPS files.

Hi, again!
Actually the eps-file mentioned on the top was included on the mentioned DVD training video ("Lightwave 3D 8 - From the beginning"), so it is still little strange why I can't open it since I am using LW 3D 8.5 version.
Can I make eps-files in TurboCad 11.2 Pro and open it in LW 3D 8.5 as well?

Hi, again!

Well, well. I think I found a solution to the problem. I also have CorelDraw11 on my computer so I just imported the eps-file in and saved it as an ai-file with compatibility: Adobe Illustrator 6.0 and export text as: curves. Then I used the EPSF loader in LW 3D 8.5 and imported it that way. Anyway. Thanks for help.

Good, that's exactly what you needed to do! :)

Hi,

I too am just working my way though the Lightwave 3D 8, From the Begninning DVD tutorial. Ran into the exact same problem. What I noticed is that the file smalldial.eps that was provided with the tutorial is EPS version 8, which should work. I simply changed the setting in the tutorial from closed polygon to closed polygons and polylines. What comes in is slightly different from what you see in the tutorial, (not a closed polygon) but I continued with the Lathe tool and the same effect occured as demonstrated in the DVD.

Good to see someone working at the same time and same issues. I am not alone.
