I've had a chance to take a look at the api and immediatly found I couldn't open it because I'm using an older version of Visual Studio (2003 .NET)
It occured to me it might be useful if the api also included the *.sln files for 2003 as well.
Just as a side note, you have 2 pdfs in the sdk zip file which are completely broken.
lwsdk\html\lscript
ReferenceManual.pdf
UserGuide.pdf

If you don't know what it is, then you don't need it

What does it do?
It shows programmers how to access information and write plug-ins for LightWave. The more open the SDK, the more programmers can do with their plug-ins.

Software Development Kit.
Heheh, Technically it actually stands for Server Development Kit... :)
And yes the Lscript docs, are only the place holders....
I complained in the correct area, with LW8.5 about that, but obviously this company is right on top of fixing things....
The actual Lscript docs are larger a couple of mb....
