Hi everybody

i was wondering does anybody know how to model a knot ?

i am in the process of modelling a nmartial arts character and im on his belt

but i have no idea how to model a realistic look bow or knot on his belt.

If anybody has any tutorials, any sort of plugins or anything help at all then

that would be great.

thanks

I know it's not (knot?) the cleanest way, but you could always start with the belt modeled flat, add a chain of bones and then tie the knot using bone deformations.

Or splines/2-point-poly in the basic shape, then rail extrude them, using the belt as shape.

I'll try and get a pic posted of what I mean.

Here's what I just tried using splines. Worked fine. Keep in mind this was a quick and dirty 5 minute sample. If you spend more time on the polygon shape in step 2, and texturing, it would look better.

If you have RopeEditor, it was just made for this sort of thing. Or C_Worm from Pictrix. :)

Yet another option is to model the belt laid out flat, with enough segements so that it can bend nicely. Then use C_Bend (http://www.pictrix.jp/lw/Cbend/index.html) from Pictrix to bend it into the shape of a background spline that's tied in a knot.

I once modeled a ship's rigging with C_Bend. I had a straight length of rope, and C_Bend let me easily tie copies of that straight rope into knots.

Forgot about C_Bend. Awesome. Thanks!

Hairblade plugin is cool but it's PC only.
