Hi there,
does anybody know how to take a Maya object with all of its maps and import them to lightwave intact. I have been able to get the objects but minus the maps. Tryed Polytrans but with know avail but also don't want to pay 600 dollars more to Polytrans just to be able to transfer objects and maps only with Maya. Anyway any help would be appreciated.

There are some simple rules:

a) Your objects must have UVs otherwise all maps will be ignored. This can be as simple as a planar projection but it must be there (the texture is always associated with the UVs in the OBJ file).

b) UVs may only contain one clean UV set. If you have multiple UV sets on one object merge/ bake and clean them up in Maya.

c) Only use image textures. Procedurals will go black/ blank.

d) Only use textures on appropriate material channels. E.g. translucency is not supported.

e) Even if you followed the above rules, it's always good to keep your fingers crossed.
