Tell us more. Change from what name to what? What means "load a scene up from out side of LW"?

first off, if the name is like room_witha_view.lws it will become ROOM_W-1.LWS . and by outside of lightwave i mean. starting up layout by clicking on a scene file, not first opening layout and then going file/load/scene.

Yeah I like this effect. Billy and his OS offer you nearly endless pathlength and to be compatible they are trunkated to a 8.3 format when sent thru a doublclick. So thru the doubleclick Explorer is telling Lightwave "open ROOM_W~1.LWS" and Lightwave does.
There is another limit with networknames (networkdrives). There you get real problems with names longer then 32 charakters.
So simplest solution would be to shorten the names.

thats one thing but, the thing i am really annoyed with is my scene that keeps on crashing layout when i load it. i thought at first i was the object so ireplaced it with an earlier version of it. but then when it is looking for some of the images while loading the scene and i redirect it to them it still crashes.
the problem actually started with the scene when i was beginning to render something, but decided to abort it and LW froze. so i had to end task throught the task manager. ever since then it has been crashing.

It crashes only with this scene?
Thirst thing with this behavior->uninstall, reinstall. Takes 10 minutes.

Sometimes files in windows get corrupted. Maybe Windows saved something it shouldn't when you killed LW. Rare but happens.
if you did custom settings in LW you can save your config files (document and settings/username) and restore them after the reinstall.
You won't get problems with your license if that's your question.
