View Full Version : DSL Modems OR Routers snarking Screamernet?

Anyone here suspect their DSL, Cable modem or router as interfering with Screamernetting?

I've been having a spate of network failures lately that just don't make sense. When I power down the whole rig, modem and router included, then sequentially restart: router, modem, computer1, computer 2, all returns to normal.

I can't explain it, but I have a feeling it's the modem causing some kind of problem which throws the network connection.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Belkin Router/Switch, Motorola cable modem from Comcast.

How is your router configured? DHCP or Static?

Just my opinion, but if you are running a renderfarm of any sort, I would suspect that you would want to be using static IP addresses.

DHCP...

what are the pitfalls w/respect to my web connection if I change that to Static?

Nothing. Just make sure your WAN is set to DHCP, so your cable modem can give the router an ISP.

I am assuming you know how to do all of this. If not let me know with a PM.
