I would like to freeze the output (main bus) image. Is there a way to do this?

In YourDrive:\VideoToaster2\Effects\ grab the Hold Still filter and drop it on the frame you want to freeze (or on the track underneath it). If you have something else following the freeze, stretch the Hold Still to the length you need it to be.
If you want to pick up the video again at the frame after the freeze, razor/cut ("c" key) the clip immediately after the frame to be frozen, slide the balance of the clip down the timeline and put the Hold Still on the freeze frame for the desired length immediately followed by the rest of the clip.

I thinks that this here lad wants to know how to freeze the output in a switching environement.
I don't know if it is posible at the moment. Maybe a T[2] God might want to enlighten us.

Yes, the application is a live event switching environment. Not editing.

Yes.
Open a Capture panel from the menu, and in the Options tab, check Timed recording and set it for one frame.
Leave capture open during the show, set to record Program Out.
Anytime you need to grab a still just click the record button and it will automatically drop a one-frame still into the folder you've chosen.

But I want the frozen frame to remain on the output.
Yes, I know what you mean.
You want a "Freeze" button.
VT[2] does not have this. The only solution I know, whould be to run your video through an external switcher that has a freeze or run it through an external TBC w/ proc amp & a freeze button. OF course you would need a TBC for each input.
(we have an Alta that has 4 inputs, but you can only do cuts)

Correct, a simple freeze button. Then let's add effects such as strobe, negative, etc., like on my old MX-1 (cheap) mixer....

We already have the negative in one of the DVE folders along with posterize and time stretch.

Good news,
You can freeze the output of the T[2], here is how.
You have to use Aura's video grabber.
Launch Aura and open up the Video grabber.
In Switcher put Aura on the DSK channel and turn on the DSK channel.
Now run some video and hit the grab input on the Video grabber in Aura.
Frozen output.
To fade out of it just fade out the DSK channel int the switcher.
It's a little far fetched but it gets the job done.
Sorry for not taking the time to elaborate but I just thought of this and wanted to get it posted before I stepped out.
Have A Great Day.
