Hiya. Its been a while since I posted anything and this is the reason. Still a lot to do but heres a screenshot and a link to a quick edit of the start of my animated short about an alien that lands in the arctic and makes friends (maybe?) with a penguin.
I'd love to know your opinions.

Neat! Good job! I would love to see more, even though the last movie I saw about an alien that lands in the arctic didn't end too well for a nearby research station.
Only one critique: When the penguin is watching the saucer land, his whole body pivots to follow it as it passes.

cheers Oliver,
Yep, I saw that film again recently, still a classic, and I reckon its gonna influence me a bit. I'm thinking this may be a prequal to it! Thanks for the crit about the penguin, I did get a bit lazy on occasion with the animation - this is taking me far longer than I hoped!

any ideas about how the story could develop would be good as well...I'm kinda making it up as I go along (not too hot on writing stories!)

thats ok but I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean the style of the character compared to the style of the land?

John Carpenter's: THE THING is by far THE BEST sci-fi horrow remake ever. I have recommended and shown it to people that I know that aren't really into sci-fi horror and the all liked it. IT is one of the few, in my opinion, that John Carpenter did right.
I watch it at least once or twice a year.... And unlike a lot of the more recent stuff (including blockbusters) I find that I enjoy it every time.
Speaking of liking and disliking movies.... Chronicals of Narnia sucked donkeys... The effects were good, but trying to smoosh several books into one movie made it suffer.... King Kong was decent, but some of the sequences were way WAY over the top (bronto scene anyone?) and they got boring because it became an exercise in, "hey, lets do this because it will look cool."
And the number one, worst film I have seen recently was Ultraviolet.... As much as I love looking at Mila Jovovich, that move seemed like it was directed by a 14 year old who suffered from the "wouldn't it be cool if syndrom." Too much action, not enough story or character dev and the effects were pretty horrible (except for a couple of decent scenes).
Anyway, even with dated effecst, THE THING is cool!

ah, I was hoping ultraviolet would be good-Im a big Mila fan too. Saw the trailer and thought it had potential. Guess I'll give it a miss, although people slated the Res Evil films and I thought they were OK. Not great but watchable brainless entertainment. Not as good as the games tho!

I still think the effects are good in the Thing, has a more realistic look than most of todays CGI, apart from the head spider scene - but that still good cuz its so funny!!
