Hello!!
Now i'm making a short animation in Lightwave. You can see one of screen from this project. I'm using computer with cpu 1.4 ghz and 1256 mb of ram. In my project i want make a grass on object. Not on texture. I start using grassgenerator but it is not enough for me and there is another problem grass generator have some limits like grasses parametr max is 20000 :(
Maybe someone know something better to make a 3d grass and have good manula or tutorial to this plug or techniq :)

One way I have seen is photos of grass mapped (UVed) on to flat polys then X the ploys and mulitiply them so from the side you get a layered effect with very basic geometry does not work too bad if looking along ground level.
But involves some very time consuming photoshoping:)
Or use SASlite but you will have to make your ground plane very dence to get anything worth keeping and use some silly length sizes to get anything half decent.

There's always saslite. I think you can make grass that's as good as the full sasquatch.
I used it to make nice long grass for this shot.

Hello
There is my next screenshot with grass made on grass generator. It's look like i want but object of grass have 68 mb dysk space and i don't what know how many memory is taken for this. Oddity i watched your screen and your grass is nice but for my animation is not good. It's look like mythic grass :( I know how make such a grass. Or maybe you can help me and write/tell me how to make using a sasquatch more realistic grass??
Thx for help.
Bye!!
ps.Now i will start making a apple-tree :)

I'm a little confused--you want to make more realistic grass, but you dont think sas can do it? No offense or anything but I dont think the grass you have is terribly realistic, and not just because of how few blades there are... But what do I know about grass.
In any case, I think that if you mess with the settings enough in sas you can get it to look acceptable for realistic grass. I dont know about any tutorials for photoreal grass with sas, but I think its documented pretty well in the LW help.

Saslite can do perfectly nice grass. I haven't used it in 2 years and I came up with these in 5 mintues.
YOu really don't need a tutorial, saslite is VERY simple and the settings are quite obvious. Just fiddle with them until you get the grass you want.
I've seen people talk about Saslite. I go to Worley but its not in the main directory of products. A Google search pulls up a Worley page on Saslite, clicking on the Odering button takes you to a page that has no Saslite listed.
So... I dont think they sell it anymore.

Only if you sat down and read all the docs or feature list. Which I grant, very few folks do. ;)
Worth you browsing the feature list and help files though, you may pick up some very usefull tool hints. There are enough long-term users out there still discovering little gems. :)
It's also worth just browsing Newteks tutorial area, not so much for the tutorials themselves, (depending on your level of expertise), but they could highlight something you may not be aware of. A lot of the time I scan read tutorials just to see if they are doing anything I can utilise.
As to grass, there is also the old "clipmap" stack method (a variation of the old fake volumetric fog).
Another great place for tutorials BTW is: http://members.shaw.ca/lightwavetutorials/Main_Menu.htm - if it isn't in your "must visit" links yet, it should be. :D
I think my problem here was that I had 6.5 and upgraded in November last year. I was going to pay for 9 + manual. Then they said 9 might not upgrade over 6.5 properly so I got 8.5 without the manual. No point in reading that then having to go thru the 9 books. Well... still no 9 :( and no books. Yeah I have the pdf manual but its still 8.5. Oh well :)
When I get the 9 books I will go thru every page, except animation.

hello!
I change some things and I wants inform you about it . I eliminited a grass problem by using a sasquatch and I made such a things like flowers[daisys, roes], pots and apple tree also I made a smoke from chimney. One notice about a grass I think that there is only one possibility to make it on Lightwave is using a Sasquatch if you want make it on such a big area. I tryed some others plugins likes a grass generator but results wasn't enough good. In next step i want make bushes on the right part of screenshot, better smoke and clounds made on Hypervoxel. What do you think about it and what else I should change in my project??
I'm waitnign for your opinions.
Bye!!

Add it as a displacement plugin on the Deform tab of the object properties.
You also have to add it to the Image Processing tab as an Image Filter.
The first instance is for setting up the fibre settings.
The second controls things like shadowing and antialiasing. Without the Image Filter Saslite won't render so remember to add that.

I see you have finished the image using Saslite, and have achieved a good result!
If you decide to use the polygonal grass route in the future, and want to use the output from grass generator, you might want to look at HDInstance from Happy Digital:
http://www.happy-digital.com/instance.asp
Here's some grass I just created using that plugin. There is one grass patch, cloned many time to give the effect. This allowed over 27 million polys at rendertime :)
Until LW get's "proper" instancing, this is the best way to achieve it...

Hello!
Few things at start.
Your grass is very nice i had very similar effects with grass generator but i have one big problems. Not enought memory bla bla and if you are saying that this plugs generator 27 mln polygons for me it's too much if i want make animation[about 4 minutes] I have only 1.4 ghz and 1.256 gb of ram. But thx for this tip a lot. When I will be making a details capture i will think about it.
Can you write me do you think about other parts of my projects :)

OK - so you understand. The image I posted only had 50,000 polys in it. The HD Instance plugin I mentioned creates "copies" (or instances) of that 50000 poly patch of grass, and clones it many many times, so you can render far more geometry than your machine (or Operating system) might normally allow (in this case, 27 Million instanced polygons). Visit the site and take a look at the description there, it might help explain better than I am doing! :)
As for your scene, I think it's coming along just fine. You have already said you want to improve the sky and smoke, and those are two areas I would have mentioned. I would also put some trees or other objects on the hill in the background so as to break up the skyline a little.

my above post not the thread! I started typing something then realised it was already answered so a post has to have at least 25 characters so I deleted the orginal text and filled it with rubbish asking for it to be deleted.
