I've got a gig teaching Lightwave, and a couple of the students have asked about the discovery version for practice at home. I've looked all over the site but I can't find one. Is it possible to download a current version anywhere for running it in discovery mode?

If it is possible to download it, would it be legal for me to make copies of it and hand it out? Not all of the students have the bandwidth.

No there's no current version available for download you'd have to order it from Newtek. You can download 7.5 which isn't THAT different. I'll see if I can find a link.

This is the LW7.5 update but you can install it without already having LW installed and it will run in demo mode (discovery edition) - Baz

If you are teaching LightWave, and thus have your own copy you can take it and install on as many machines as you'd like.

Ask Newtek directly for the Demo - they give out LW 8.0 discovery discs.

That may be true, but shouldn't your post be: "How many LW8.0 discovery discs would you like?"

My question would be, "How many blank CDs do you own?" ;) Without a dongle, and as long as you don't alter the code, it isn't piracy. Give a man a demo CD and he installs for a day, give him a CD burner and he installs for a lifetime. ;)

A bit off the main topic, but I' curious whats the average time it takes for someone to get there version of lightwave as soon as they order it from NewTek?

stib,

We will not have a downloadable discovery edition until after the release of LightWave v9. Since you are in Melbourne, please contact Darrell Vanderwolf at New Magic. They handle all sales and customer service for your area, and they should be able to hook you up with discovery edition CDs and demo reel DVDs.

darkChief,

If you are from Zambia, you would need to make your request from NewTek Europe. They handle all sales and customer service for your area.

OOps that is a bit misleading I guess. I am from Zambia but I'm currently in the united states, I ordered my copy of Lightwave 3D yesterday, I was just woundering how long it would take to arrive. A while back i did request the demo reel and that took several weeks to arrive, thats the main reason I'm woundering how long, and the second reason is, I just can't wait to get my hands on it:D

Most orders ship the business day after they are placed, some even ship the same business day.

Oh cool, I'll take along my copy and burn off some discs then. I wasn't sure I would be able to, that will make my students very happy.

Just remember, the advice to burn discs didn't come from Newtek, who may view the situation differently..
