box modeling face problem:

I have one reoccuring problem with losing the symetrie on objects in modeler while modeling.

Is there a trick to regain symetrie or to avoid losing the symetrie in modeling.

I usually use drag, move, scale and smooth shift in the perspective view.
I try to save every step, but it is annoying having to reload the object all the time

Any advice is appreaciated:confused:

This is just a guess, but if you're moving points in the perspective view, is your object centered (F2)?

Symmetry works if your object is centered and you're moving points on the +X direction and letting symmetry handle the -X.

This is mentioned on page 21.9 in the LW 7 User's Guide.

use your knife tool to cut the head down the centre, then delete on half. Only model one side and mirror the other half back in place, when needed.

I use a couple of tools that don't work in symetry mode, and had the same problem. Now I use Un-Mirror & Do-Mirror (http://www.flay.com/GetDetail.cfm?ID=1066).
This plugin removes everything on the lefthanded side of the y-axis and puts the right half back with two commands. I made keybordshortcuts on the Home and End.

A bit the same as riki noted but more lazy :)

I've since grabbed a copy of domirror/unmirror myself. This is an awesome plug-in combo and well worthy of a keyboard shortcut. Great for this type of modeling work. These scripts should be included with Lightwave!

These are also great scripts for beginners to review. The scripts are ridiculously short. Both scripts actually consist of only three lines of "code"
