View Full Version : Weight map distortion
I had a weight map for the jawbone on this model but I get this horrible distortion when I bring the model into layout. If I take out the weight map, I can't move the jaw - like the bone totally controls nothing. I can't seem to restore control of the mesh with the jawbone without the distortion. Should I have parented the jawbone to the before I applied expressions and IK to the rest of the skeleton?
Can any explain how to fix this? Any help on this is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

I guess you have no weight maps on the other bones. Remember: once you start to use weight maps, you have to assign them to every bone in your setup. Otherwise Lw goes bonkers.

Yeah ... I seen examples of that. However, I tried generating weight maps for all the bones and then assigning them in modeler but this did not heal the problem.
It seems that there are two schools of thought about weight maps. Either use them or don't use them but don't mix and match?
Some people say that they only use them when needed ... but when I try that I get distortions.
Anyway, this all seemed to happen when I tried attaching the rigged skeleton with the mesh to a Global null and then adjusting the mesh to set the initial IK pose. This is when things went wacky. Anyway, how can I fix this without re-rigging?
Thanks again,
DWW
