Hey Guys, this is my first thread here :D

I've got about a week to model, texture, sasquatch, rig and animate a realistic lion...

Yeah, I know, it's not gonna be like Aslan, but I intend to work the "render" method - in passes - first i'll get things to a fair level and if i'll have time i'll improve things at the end...

C&C's are more than welcomed of course... :help:
Thank you.
Nir.

Looking good so far... nice neat model, but that is one TIGHT deadline, considering how much tweaking sasquatch can take! It's tough to tell what the Lion will look like with hair when i see it nude.

I guess it's like a bear too, what on earth would a bear look like without hair?? I wonder if they have dark skin or pink skin?? hmmm......

Can't wait to see this one textured and with hair etc. I guess if you have such a little amount of time, we'll be seeing it shortly!!

Very cool indeed!!

I too can't wait to see how it turns out :agree:

Best of luck,

Kuzey

I started texturing a bit, and uv mapped the whole thing for the sasquatch maps.
Usually I use weight maps for sas, but I think this time i'll go by a Rowsby's tut. check it out: http://www.worley.com/TutFiles/RowsbySas/

* don't mind the his face/body color - just a bad test...

i just finished up on a project with a similarly tight deadline. had to model, texture, set up a smooth camera flythrough and render an entire housing development in 9 days(and it had to look as real as possible). Good luck and don't get too stressed out. Looks like you're off to a good start.

Thanks guys! That really helps :beerchug:

Quick questions: I've made a Uv color map for the hair, but even when the "color image strentgh" is on 1000% - the salt and pepper color still dominate the hair color... any idea?

Well that's one **** of a first post, nir! Nice one.

Make sure in your Sasquatch "Mapping" tab you've got your UV map selected. Otherwise, yes, it's salt-and-pepper all the way.

Bog: hehe, thanks...

Got passed that prob. here's an update:

new prob.: c the "grid" on the hair? not because of antialiasing and not combing.... ??

need more curl and frizz + longer hair. now its more like grass

Recommend using several instances of Sasquatch, like 2 seperate sets of short base fur with slightly different settings, and one with longer hairs. Seems to help with getting the fur more random looking, as well to have more depth. At least thats my experience.

Dogbite and Fozz: Thanks for the tips.

So it was hard but I left the sas fiddilng in the afternoon, so I could get on with making the rig and model his inner mouth.

Here's what turned out in the mean time + the finished rig :jam: :

Rig test pose + inner mouth complete. Back to the sasquatch r&d...
I think if i'll have time i'll add a couple of morphs, to get some more lip control and facial expressions.

you need some hold bones, in the shoulders.

hold bones are small bones that will hold the shoulder form.
make a child bone from the start of the shoulder thats rotated 90 degres.

Actually, I thought about doing it so i could imitate the scapula action (with rotating it in the appropriate time). Think it'll work?

another update.

1. i think i'm on to what's causing the grid thing. first like dogbite said' i thought it's a matter of combing ans styling, but then i saw it looked different from various angles. anyway, as it turns out - it happens when i turn on the shadowing attributes (receive lightwave shadows, self shadowing...).
what can i do?

2. there's something in te face / eyes that doesn't work. it doesn't look good (model wise), i just can't c what. anyone?

Nice deformation on the limb joints in the run cycle..
It's a nice movement, too, but I think maybe the legs dont travel far enough.. When the rear legs come in to land, they dont go far enough forward and so looks like it's "skipping along" a bit, and the front legs dont travel far enough back before leaving the ground again..

This pic sorta explains what I mean.. http://www.alanandsandycarey.com/Wildlife/Mountain%20Lions/images/21%20Mountain%20Lion%20running.jpg

See how the legs cross over when it's in the middle of the running cycle, and stretching the movement out a bit will make the movement more dynamic, like it's pushing itself to really run.. remember felines are pretty flexible, so the back would bend quite a bit..
I tried to find some footage of lions running, but it's not easy to find, sorry ;)
I can see how with a little work it could look great, though :)

The fir is looking better, but still a ways to go to look realistic.
However, your poses look pretty good!
