Howdy,
This is my "finished" version of my microsoft XP toaster. Thank you to anyone in the WIP section for your C&C.
Comments are appreciated. :)

Thats pretty funny. I guess that would be the motherboard thats burning up inside because it can't handle XP's crashes. Whats next, XP TV? Hmmmm, Carbon, better get crackin' on that before Uncle Bill does
Nice model and idea btw. The only thing I would like to see is a bit of a glow/radiositiy bounce on the counter from the monitor (can be faked w/o rad) and maybe some thicker smoke, but it's just a miniscule pick. Great as is.

Thanks guys,
banshee-Good point on the radiosity. I could have used some coming from the monitor and from inside the toaster holes. I tried Monte Carlo Radiosity but the times were killin me with that and aa, dof, soft reflections etc. I settled with backdrop only radiosity only.
I wish intel/amd would get off there asses and produce the 1000 ghz machine. I'm ready for real time renders. ;)

Hey that's cool..
How come I never saw it in the WIP section?
I think the smoke is a little weird.. and I'd like to be able to read the screen.. is it a touchscreen? Maybe some crumbs or smudgy fingerprints around...
Neat idea.. [thumbs up]

Hurben-
It's still in the WIP section I think. Was up for a few days.
I'd like to see the text too! I don't know why the text is blurry. The image map is a relatively high res bmp. It's not the DOF (does the same with dof off). Let me know how I could get it clearer if you know.
Yeah, smoke is a little wierd. That's what I get for trying to photoshop it. Black the wrong color? White looks too cigarette smokey.
smudges, fingerprints and crumbs are a great idea. I wanted too, then I though "omg it's getting late"
:)

hmm.. maybe turn off "pixel blending" and "texture antialiasing" in your texture panel to get clearer text.
Regarding the smoke.. well, I'm just trying to imagine what is actually smoking.. and I don't think it would be coming out of the holes (technical term) so evenly.. perhaps just smoke more concentrated to a few areas. But then again.. I don't think its toast burning. :)
I'm imagining a Linux version.. with some nice freshly toasted slices popped up. hehe

Awesome!!! Almost as good as this one (http://www.mini-itx.com/projects/toasterpc/) ...
We should do the 12" Apple Powerbook waffle maker :D

Hurben-Thanks for the suggestions. Just tried rendering limited region on just the "intel inside" decal (which is a 300 x 400 .png) with these three texture panel settings
1. no texture aa
2. no pixel blending
3. no both
all three looked imperceivably the same as the original. Other ideas?
heh, I should do a linux version working final
Jerome-ha! I love that toasted pc he built! Some apple stuff would be fun.

The only other thing I could suggest would be to make a higher res image map.. other than that, I'm not sure..
Put it on later in Photoshop? .. some would call that cheating.. and it probably wouldn't look so good either.
Look on the plus side.. it makes the viewer want more and adds an element of mystery. I say leave it be and move onto an apple with an interface, I mean the fruit. :)
Hehe, could you imagine them called 'banana'?

Don't want to take over your post but here is an "apple" experiment I had made. I called it the fat Imac...

ha!, great idea. I see that it's a belly, by the bellybutton but it needs to be soother and more belly-like eh? Great start though
