Hello everyone,

I hope someone can direct us in the right direction.

We are looking at the VT2 and VT3 for releasing our movies onto DVD. We need:

-removal of celluloid film scratches
-broadcast quality
-preparation of file for DVD authoring
-improving colors on older films (23+ years old)

Our sources are Betacam NTSC, Betacam PAL and everything must be done using component.

Is this a reasonable solution? I know VT2 is much more powerful, but will it do what I need? What software (aside from ReelDVD for authoring) will need to be purchased to fulfill these tasks?

Can someone please help? Thanks.

Scratch removal will require a 3rd party solution.

VT systems are always completely uncompressed, so broadcast quality is no problem.

Using TmpegEnc will prepare your video for the DVD

Color correction is a breeze. Especially on the VT3 system.

Any suggestions on a third party software for scratch removal?

I saw color correction and how it works in VT2. In VT3, will I be able to improve my colors in terms of making my grass greener, the sky more blue, and generally make the colors more "live"?

I am afraid that the only functions available is making the entire movie more blue, or red, or whatever, but not actually brighten up the colors from old movies.

Thanks a lot for the reply!

Scratch removal might be accomplished with selection of the tinyest amount of blur, nearly imperceptible to the eye but just enough to remove the smaller less offensive scratches. If you want to do some real good enhancements, look into Cinelook. We haved used it for years to "filmlook" video. It has film matching capability and tons of other options.

The only hitch in the giddy-up is time. If you have a ton of footage it will take awhile for processing.
