This is a microphone I modeled recently. I modeled it from my father's old Astatic mic that I had around the house. I used digital photos for reference and textures.
Let me know what you think.

Excellent work. My one crit would be that the textures on the base aren't quite up to par with the rest. Very nice all around though.

Very nice. I agree that the base needs a better texture as well.

I'd add a turbulence diffuse and/or specular map to that base. It looks okay, just too smooth. Maybe add a very faint bump map to it.
The metallic parts are terrific. Would love to see your surface settings.

Could we see your reference image(s)? I'm not sure how it's supposed to look, but I tentatively have to agree about the base.

Here's the real thing:
I agree with all of the above, but I'd like to add another comment.
because of the light direction there is no shadow at all near the front of the base, which looks kind of un-natural, try shifting the light around to give a better look, or float the lamp every so slightly above the table to create a little shadow.
cheers

yes very nice model. I would also agree the base seem a bit to dull or something.
One other thing perhaps try rotating your camera so the stem is a bit more vertical and then you could rotate the microphone a bit, to me it looks like it's going to fall over or something. What are your camera settings.?:)

I agree about the base, it needs a bump or diffuse or something to break up the monotony of it.

Thanks for the nice comments!
Before building the model, I took digital photos of the microphone from the front, top and side views (See previous post). I used these first as template images in the background views in Modeler. Then I used them to create the textures. I edited them in Photoshop and created color, bump and specular maps. I also used some procedural textures as well. From there I kept making adjustments and rendering until I liked it.
I didn't pay as much attention to the base's texture, it could use more of a crumple bump.
Here's a montage of some of the texture maps.

The model looks well made and even though I'm no render expert the textures look great but I have to agree on the base needing some thing as well :)

Here's another of the mic itself.
just one tiny thing, you gona have a bump map for the serial number stamp? otherwise looks great.

If you're going for realism, you should add all the nicks and scratches on the mike and stand.
