Here is phase two of this project. Currently I've added these things: additional houses, a little bit of fog, drapes, cleaned up the grime a little on the windows, and some grass in the cracks [which I think I need to add more]. What do you all think?

Many thanks,

Kelly

I really like it a lot. The lighting is really nice.

The only thing I can say is that the sky looks wrong. I don't think you'd ever see a gradient in the sky like that. It's going from one side to the other instead of from the horizon line up. RIght now it appears your sky has tipped on it's side. Unless there's a nuclear blast going off to the right of your neighborhood.;)

great work here!
i think the grass is too one-sided, there's no variaty in it. play with sasquatch!

hrgiger: LOL! bring on the nuclear holicaust, at least this house will be sold then! I actually had some image refs for the sky. Either way, I was trying to show where the sun was. You know how the light from the sun will bleed into the sky. But I'll hunt around and see about the sky!

iluvatar: I've been told about the grass before, I don't have sas or sas lite, so it's kind of hard to tweak settings, could you give me a explanation? I understand one-sided, but just elaborate a little on what I need to tweak.

Thank you both!

Some subtle oil markings on the drive?

kellyv

ahhhh! very good idea! Driveway too clean? Yer right, I need to hunt around for some examples! :D

Thank you,

Kelly

i would say color, length, thickness variety and maybe a wind-blow for the grass, but i just can't help you with that if you don't have sasquatch or saslite... but since saslite is free shipping with lightwave today (at least with my version ;)) you should be able to get it somewhere on the internet for free!

It looks like the bottom "For Sale" sign is 2 ft off the ground. Maybe that's intentional, but where I live, that's about 2-3 ft. too short.

It's in the ground, I think that it's because of the grass around it, and where the shadows lie. I'll push the grass around and see if that helps.

thanks! :)

Oh, I see. Since you sold the home, you no longer need to mow the grass. :D

Very nice house :) I like the way the garage door on the far right is slightly open...gives the house a "used" look.

Good work.

Very nice except the bricks and the SOLD sign look a little blury compared to the rest of the image.

I've played with the grass trying to give it that mowed look. I should have another tweak later on with the overall lighting of the scene.

js33, The tweak with the lighting may end up removing the blur a little fromt the brick and sold sign for ya.

Thanks everyone again for your comments!

Nice but doesn't look much different than the first post.
The bricks still look a little blurry.
Do you have texture anti-aliasing on?
Turn that off but leave pixel blending on.

JS

I'm still waiting on the render to finish! LOL It's been over 12 hours.. I hate to see the print version render! :S I'll double check those settings and make sure. I was told in the past to have em both off, but I've probably let things slip. What's the difference of pixel blending and texture antialiasing I forgot? Ahhh Time to whip out the manual; It's been so long! LOL

Thank you so much,

Kelly

the image was very nice but maybe with a little more of bumps on the bricks it would be better. You're doing gtreat.

I like the late afternoon lighting and aoverall atmosphere.
The shrubs by the front windows are a little sparse and too uniform. I agree with the sidewalk stains. Everyone has had a crappy car with a drippy oil pan park on their driveway.

Hi Kelly,

Wow 12 hours seems like a long time for that image. What speed machine are u using? Pixel blending can also be turned off if your image maps are high enough rez. Texture anti-aliasing will definately make your image maps blurry. Its main purpose is to keep images that are too high rez from being noisy when rendering animations. But for still shots you want to turn off texture anti-aliasing.

Cheers,
JS

jeyem: I'm playing now to see what I can do for the bump map to make it more defined!

mrxd: I've added some stains rust stains and oil stains to the driveway! <-- Finally, right? :) LOL I've also been suggested about the bushes looking thin. speaking of things with leaves ~ how about the trees?

js33: This is going to be a print render, but why it takes so long would be that it's a radiosity scene. I decided that I'd give this type of lighting a shot.

My system specs are:

Athlon 1.2 Ghz
1gb ram
win2k

I did check and everything was on pixel blending. I did hunt in the manual to find the difference. I'm still a little lost, but at least I know the impact between the two types. Thanks for warning me about that!

I woulda posted the picture from the last render, but the joys of forgetting to check stuff... After the long wait, I had a really kew goof, of super lit up windows! :S I should have something again in a couple of days.

mucho thanko, :D

Try setting radiosity to Interpolated (I use 6 x 18) with a tolerance of 0.5 for faster test render results. Unless this is what you're doing already, it will save you lots of time.

Or, you can send me all the scenes and ill farm 'em for ya. Hehe.

Really, looks cool.

Grass is too long, it would be almost imposible to have cut grass that long, also there is no uniformity to the wind. Other than that, looks ok.

GroovyAz:

heheh, yeah, mine was pretty close to your settings. I wound up actually saying screw it though! ;) I did a test in monte carlo style [w/o cutbacks...] I know it's gunna kill me, but MMMMMMMMM ~ it looks sooo purdy! :) Mucho thanks about the farming, I haven't got a clue how I'm gunna tackle something like that at this time! Thank so much for the idea and looking at the pic!

Rei:

I don't know about impossible, I had one yard when I was about 10 I did that was horrid! It was a jungle [regular suburbs house]. It had blades of grass over a foot high. My step dad and myself had to mow the grass in two passes. It was pretty funny. We'd mow one pass with the mower tilted in the air with it's front wheels reaching for the sky, and the second pass all flat. I never thought someone could get a yard to look that bad! :S Anyway, I am looking at it, and I am thinking about what you said, it does look high, like it would need to be cut again. Hmmmmm :S

I just wanna give everyone a HUGE thank you for looking at my pics and critiquing the house I've been working on! I'll have a picture of it tomorrow with the environment change as well as brick bumping. Again.

Sincerely and thanks,

Kelly

Looks great! Did you use a photo for windows?
The sky! Its still too purple and red, and the gradient is still wrong... The reflection in the windows suggests a slightly overcast sky on earth...not Nebulon 9! :)

I REALLY suggest you try Ekis SkyGen, it would complete the picture!

I really dig the sunset shading on the house, and in the shadows!

HowardM:

Thanks so much! I didn't use any pictures. The drapes are actually just a generic colored material. I tried to get something that looked like it was woven[sp?] cloth, but it started to look really funky, so I took that off. Speaking of the windows... I've noticed something odd with LW. Sometimes it renders like it should and others not. If you look at these other images of windows. You'll see how the drapes are really dark. It's just odd, when it cranks out an image like this. For a while It was doing the same thing with the trees, but I think that was the case when I was using the transparancy.

I am working on right now your idea with the clouds. Hopefully I'll have something for you to look at then when it is all complete.

And Great profile pic! Ohhh the memories that flooded my little brain when I saw that guy! Kudos!!

Kelly

This one @ 100%

Also I tweaked the grass where it is now lower. What are the final comments, before I put this baby into final render? The only thing I can think of is tweaking the lighting a little bit to match the environment [which ever one is works] Thanks everyone for your help and comments! :D

Sincerely,

Kelly

(still not happy about the grass but who cares!)

thanks Rei!!

Where are you in the world? I think we may have different types of grass. Either way, I was looking at the pick, and I think the final image I will desaturate slightly. I think this will also help with the look.

Thanks for letting me know about which image you prefer though!

Regards,

me [kelly] :)

Looking good though!
