I have just gotten lightwave 8 and my class is still using 7.5 for the time being, I read that there is a way to switch 8 back to 7, if someone could please inform me on how, it would be much appreciated... thanx in advance!

You can't physically switch version 8 to version 7 but you can change the menu layout in 8 to mimic 7 by going to:
Edit > Edit Menu Layout
There's a Preset drop down top-right in that panel that lets you choose version 7 menu layouts. Should be some help :)

if I render something in 8, even with 7 in the layout, will it not be able to comply with lightwave 7.5 when I transfer from my 8 to 7.5?

Hmm - I have never tried to take things backwards to 7 from 8 but I'm pretty sure if there's anything specific to version 8 then it won't go back, but I'm not sure what 8 had that would affect you, in that if your class is using version 7 then you'll only be using version 7 features.
Anyone tried taking stuff back to 7 from 8 out there?
Are you on about modelling, animating, or both? Modeler only has an export option for Lightwave 5 so I imagine you've a fairly good chance of taking things from 8 to 7 and back again in modeler - but don't quote me on it, do a few tests :)
Just a thought, but maybe if Chuck's reading this he could answer whether you can retro-grade your dongle from 8 to 7 so you can use it in class?
I go back to 7.5 every now and then, It's much more attractive, and I learned in 6 and 7 and had some great times, and I feel like Dr. Who using the old Tardis control room.:) :)
Most things work fine, the only thing I remember not working offhand is morphs in layout. You'd have to set up the morph mixer panel all over again because it changed in [8].

That's good to hear :)
Bless - you sound like you're talking about an old girlfriend ;) I learned on 3.5 when our Mr Vost worked for a rather good Amiga magazine and Chuck was no doubt fresh out of nappies (diapers?). If I went back to those good old days I'd probably be scared at the lack of buttons in Lightwave! Imagine working with keys without the Graph Editor, only having TCB splines and trying to get your camera to fly along a path without bumping into objects.Mind you - the first time I saw a HAM8 animation I *was* truly blown away, but then I was blown away when I first saw FPrime on LW8 so I'm all for progress :D
Yea I get sentimental about 6 & 7. I'm a sap.
