Hi, Does anyone know a good place to pick up some good Steam Locomotive Blueprints/Backdrops? I want to do some model railroading so to speak :) And I lack the backdrop images I need to start modeling. Looking for steam engines anywhere between 1900 to 1950.

It may take more work, but you could use a Lionel type model train, and base your train off of that. Are you using the backdrop to design the scene or put behind the scene?:)

I plan on using the backdrop to model off of, and I like your idea with the model train and I do have some just not the type of engine I want to make. But I may just have to settle for something else. I have also looked in http://blueprints.onnovanbraam.com but I'm just not that crazy about some of the locomotives in there either was just wondering if there was any other places.

Do you know which type of locomotive you are looking for? As in the old version with the really big stack and cab, or the newer version that looks a lot more solid.

Your best bet is going to be to see if there is a hobby/model train shop near you. You can usually find tons of stuff like you're looking for there. If it's a big enough one, they'll probably carry plans for modelers who like to scratchbuild.

You want to find a copy of this book:
Model Railroader Cyclopedia, Volume 1: Steam Locomotives
By Linn H. Westcott, Kalmbach Publishing.
This is the standard reference for model railroaders, even reviews of model locomotives reference this book.

Google turned up a bunch of stuff as well. Here are a few of the better ones.

Just in case... I wanted to let you know that I have a selection of book illo scans that you might find usefull. I also have a humungous collection of steam locomotive portrait photographs; not good as backdrops, but excellent detail references (I probably have some that would be good match for the steamcad drawings).
Let me know if you're interested.
