With all of the talk of tool consolidation, this seems like combining Cut and Bandsaw, depending on what you have selected.

I'd much rather have ten tools that do a hundred things than a hundred tools that each do one thing.

thats cool.

cutting a polygon exactly down the middle is not. We already could do that before and alot of times a cut perfectly in the middle is useless.

the only use i have so far for cutting and bandsawing is when i need to weight the edges of my subpatch model.

however now that we are getting true edge weighting, i just dont see a place for them. speaking of edge weighting, when are we going to see that?

I thought that there was going to be some tool consolidation in LW9.
Theres way too many cut tools with overlapping functions. Why not just make a cut tool that cuts whatever you need to be cut...edges, polys, splines etc.
The word 'connect' is a bit misleading IMO too.

I understand where you guys are coming from, with the critical perspective, on LW tool consolidation. I am a noob, but I can understand what is being said. Still...
I have to add though, that this tool is an example of a tool that works in all 3 of the entity select modes. And in my book that is a huge step forward in the the philosophy of how LW tools work. In many ways the connect tool is more intuitive than bandsaw and does a cleaner job than the cut tool. This will replace my ym_pointSlice plugin. I would love to see other tools work in a similar fashion, like maybe a smoothShift/extenderplus type tool that works in all modes.
Go easy on me if I missunderstand. I am a newbie :)

sorry but there are no IFs or BUTs in this case. it was clearly promised that there will be tool consolidation. ovelapping functionality != tool consolidation. I dont think it could be broken down any simpler then that.

For crying out loud! Is every vid going to be met with complaints!? I know it looks like they're just adding tools but they've stated they will be consolidating tools so maybe this is just the start, the consolidating comes later?

I agree there are far too many tools and plugins in LW but modeler isn't likely to be transformed in 9.0 lets wait and see what 9.5 or 9.8 bring. Whatever you think of this tool (which I love!) it doesn't stop you using your old favorites!

There is a difference between constructive criticism and complaints. I hope you dont yell at your client for complaining if your project needs changes.

Now, i could start a whiny thread and threaten to never buy LW and how its dying and the rest of the industry is 4 years ahead. etc etc...

If you guys were paying me I wouldn't be yelling at you lol! :D

Actually I don't think there's anything constructive in this thread. Pointing out that Connect is a basic tool and has functions that already exist in LW is just stating the bleedin obvious! You think Newtek don't know that? You think maybe they're working towards something more exciting? This tool exists in half the modellers on the market in some form or other and most of them call it connect so complaining about the name is a bit daft too IMO!

I've got a good feeling about modeler. But I think you'll have to wait a while before you see any drastic improvement. - Baz
