Hi Guys!
anyone plays the trumpet here? well, i do, and i decided to model one... model work in progress, anyone knows how to give it a better surface? (i'm not completely satisfied :P) should there be more things around to reflect?

it seems that the image is missing somehow... here's another try:

Hi illuvatar,
That top tube looks very much like copper. (Maybe its supposed too, I don't own many trumpets - in fact none at all!!).
The other brass looks good, though it could do with some more spec(?) maybe. The colour looks okay.

hmm.... i'll try more spec when i'm home again :) maybe i'll play with even more lights to get better effects...
(i need a faster pc)

Hi iluvatar,
What you could try is giving it something to reflect. Either in the scene, or go into Environment tab and set it for Ray Tracing and Spherical Map and supply an image.
This might help bring it to life, since the brass would be highly polished with a good reflection.

hi im new here, but i think thats a great start for the model... and i would agree with the reflect idea, as well as more ambient light in the BG, since you lose detail at the top with that dark BG lighting...
glad to meet yall!:D

hi tWiStEdsKuLLz, welcome here!
i always set ambient light to zero cause i don't like it... the trumpet is lit by 4 spots (standard 3-pont + top spot) and an area light... but you're right about the darkness at the top of the image, i'll change some values (or add another light) and upload asap :D

hi there!
to keep it simple for my pc i just raised global light strength to 110% :P i reduced the size of the "table", so it won't show a dark edge... keep it simple! as you can see, a slightly updated model
here she is:

owh yeah, i totally changed the complete scene :D now the trumpet is inside a sphere, just 1 spot above the trumpet aiming up and enabled radiosity so trumpet is lit... used a few lights to create spec and the bloom plugin for the extra effect... what do you guys think?
p.s. model not updated yet :(

Hi,
What have you got the glossines set to? It looks as if it could be set higher. Say 50+, in the close up the spec looks as if it needs to be tighter.
Looks a little 'fuzzy', this could be the bloom plugin of course, as I am not familiar with its effects.

Hi Stewpot,
thnx 4 comment, i think the glos looks like this 'cause there are in total 4 lights wich affect the specular on the trumpet (they don't affect anyhthing else) i think this makes it look like low glos value cause the lights are each a different angle... and you're right about the bloom plugin, it blows up the effect a bit, i'll tweak the settings when i'm home again :)
