I'm wondering if it's possible to make .jpg .psd or .png into .lwo. I'm just not good enough at LW yet and know photoshop well. So as a crutch I would like to bring file from photoshop in and use them as text.
Here is a jpg that I would like to create an exact duplicate of in Modeler
http://www.souleproductions.com/003replay2.jpg
Note: the black on background would be Alpha.
It's a breeze in photoshop. But in lightwave I haven't a clue.
This image also has another half that says replay on it.
It's for basketball & other sports- I bought a LW ammo (Don Balance's) pack that has tons of templates, but I don't like the easy text look it came with.
thanks

Is this something you want extruded (have depth) or do you just want to have it displayed in layout for an animation?
Use psd, tif, or tga 32 bit formats so you can use the alpha.
To load an image in to layout, press the F6 key for image editor or top left menu. This image can then either be applied to an object, used in the background, or as a displacement if the colors are correct( a displacement uses grayscale shades to determine the height black is low and white is high).
If you want it extruded, then it would be simpler to bring it into illustrator, trace it or recreate it and import it into modeler as an ai or eps file. Once imported it already is a flat object, using the extrude tool(shift-e) will give it depth by draging the mouse. Modeler also has a text tool which maybe of some use for you as well.

Okay, I am pretty good with Photoshop and I know the very basics of Illustrator. What I am seeing in this graphics is text with a glow. In Illustrator I would achieve that effect with the outline stroke. I have had a few projects with this type of file. I have yet to find the perfect way to get this effect in Lightwave. The stroke will not import with the width intact. It is just the outline. I find I can not get consistant results with the Glow inside Lightwave.
I have had to use the image as an image map with a transparency map (still no too handy with the Alpha inside LW)
I would much prefer to just do it all inside LW. However The amount of glow seems to vary with the amount of surface area exposed directly to the camera (I ususaly use the text sides with the Glow applied). Does anyone have any tips or tricks concerning the Glow function? or do I just keep going with what works?
