hello everyone,

i know you all are anxiously awaiting the arrival of ver.9 and as such i hate to drag you into the dungeon, but i am unable to use 7.5 and i need assistance. i purchased it from ebay, second party. i had the transfer of license process completed with newtek. and received a new license key. i have not been able to get lightwave to take the key...consequently i'm running a mac osx 10.4
- i installed sentinel
- rewrote license.key file in notepad from other pc
- checked dongle...still uncertain how to verify it is functioning correctly

i don't know what else to do and i'm gravely considering buying lightwave 8 brand new (more money) simply because i cannot get 7.5 to work. any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated...

Do NOT buy version 8 unless you like pain - go for 9. I upgraded to 8 and am heartily sorry for it; went back to 7.5d.

Newtek should be able to solve your dongle problem.

Is this from a Mac point of view? Using version 8.5 here on PC and have no major problems upgrading from 7.5, used every day since I've had it.

Wow! No way would I go back to any 7 version. The stability and usability went way up in version 8 in my book. I'm on a Dell. Can't speak for the Mac version, although I never hear any negative remarks from our one lone Mac user.

Cheers

Does Lightwave run at all? If your key doesn't work, LW should start and run in demo mode, all else being ok. I've heard of it not starting at all, but that's not a dongle/key problem. The only solution I remember is to re-install.
Wish I could be more help -

I don't think LW8 is generally any worse for Mac than 7.5 was, mine was about the same, in fact 7.5 has some issues with OS10.4 and up -

Try this. Open layout and on the top left hit the help drop down, then hit Enter Licence and enter your licence key there.

No - from souped up PC's. 8.5d was/is buggy as **** or so I'm told. Most of my problem was with the interface and the fact that I had to use the external version of Rounder with it.

As I said, 8.5d running here with no real hiccups on a souped up 4Gb dual 3.2 xeon, an older 1Gb 2.4GHz Shuttleand a 1Gb 2.6Ghz Alienware laptop. Pretty much solid use every day for at least 4 hours, often 12, on the dual xeon. "buggy as ****" seems a bit extreme - I have more problems with the Adobe CS2 suite to be honest. Only common thing is modeler crashing on quiting, which has never lost me any work. I really can't remember the last time it crashed on me, honestly, which means it must be at least a week ago. Current projects has meant my main PC hasn't been turned off in around 4 days.

My basic rule of thumb - keep the work box clean, no extraneous background apps (skype, xfire, etc), refrain from installing stuff 'just to see what it does', and chuck loads of RAM in it. And I never buy the latest and greatest hardware and software - just one or two steps down so that it's been out 6 months or so and problems found out by other people, that goes for drivers too :)

What was wrong with the interface? I can't remember there being much of a change except the tabs moving around a bit. I seem to remember you could go back to the default 7.5 look if you wanted?

the best advice that can be given is to call text support and have them walk you through it. I had this problem when I purchase LW8 from someone getting out of the business. the problem might be in the licence key.
