Hi guys.
Can anyone tell me what the wierd white band is at the base of the glass?
Ray traced transparency and refraction; ray recursion limit set to max.
Can't figure this one out. What started out as a ten minute modelling job has been bugging me for hours now.
Also attached the cross-section I lathed out to make the glass.
Cheers,
Andy

Try raising it up a mm or so, and see if that fixes it, as it could be from surface intersection.

Tried that to no avail.
Figured it out.
Turns out that I had the refraction environment settings for the air surface set to ray + backdrop not ray + spherical.
Cheers,
Andy

are you using back drop radiosity?? maybe it is the reflection/refraction of the ceiling. change the backdrop to a gradient and see if it is still grayish. oh and you should try copying the surface> flip the faces> scale it down just a notch. this will make the refraction look better.

No radiosity at all. as i mentioned above i found the problem.
Screwed up the environment settings for the air texture.
all fixed now.
thanks for the scaling tip. I'll give that a try
