View Full Version : How to transfer weight maps?

Greetings,

How do I transfer weight maps from one model to another? The meshes are variations of one mesh and have identical polys and points.
But with one difference; the modified mesh without weights has a UV map.

So when I use Background to morph, the weights transfer but not the UV map. So when I copy the UV map and paste into the endomorph, all the weights are over-ridden and disappear. I can have one or the other but not both.

What am I doing wrong?

You should be able to copy the uv'd mesh into the layer with the weight maps and AS LONG AS IT HAS NO WEIGHT MAPS do a merge, so all the points in the same places merge together, the UV's will copy onto the weighted mesh.

There´s a free plugin for just that on www.flay.com that works even on meshes with different polycounts.

The scripts somehow doesn't work with ZBrush's GUV mapping. :-(

Looks like I have to reweight every model variation.

Thanks for the suggestion Dodgy, but the meshes vary wildly, although they have the same number of polys, so merge here won't work.
