Hi all,

I'm trying to create a photorealistic lightbulb for a print design. I'm having problems with the threading on base.

How can I create the screw portion? I've tried lathing with an offset but, I can't seem to get it. And the examples i've seen using lathing don't look organic/smooth enough.

Is it possible to use some helix splines and build this thing from the ground up?

Otherwise i may just have to take a photo of the base and composite the 3d bulb.

thanks,

Ticean

I cant see why Lathe wouldnt work, but try using Rail Extrude. (start with triangle and go)

When i either lathe or rail extrude, how do i attach the thread to my main geometry? Just a bolean, or is there a better way?

Yeah, once you've got the helix you can stretch it to match the cylindrical base, then boolean it embedded halfway into that cylinder. Should look pretty accurate.
