View Full Version : Lightwave gives LWCAD1.5 away to upgraders

Massive Cudos to Newtek for giving this away - despite already owning this package - I am so pleased it has been brought on board, these tools would be sufficient to take modeller to V9 on their own. I hope when people get to use them they go straight out and buy the upgrade to the fantastic toolset in 2 the will be released in the coming months.
Big Up to Newtek. If you model - you will wet yourself when you use these tools. It is the biggest sweetner to a upgrade delay they have ever pulled.

Yes, it applies to all customers who register with the US office - that covers a little more than a hemisphere, including three continents, a number of oceans and seas and more islands than you can shake a stick at... ;)
I have been seduced by Newtek into upgrading...this is entrapment... :D

When newtek miss a deadline - they often go out of there way to make up for it - unlike several other 3D software providers I could mention ( late media mogul and son of god to name but two ). They DO listen to their user base and give us access to tools that really make a difference. LWCad is a world class modelling extension. We are all very lucky

The link on the NewTek Europe site is only going to work if you're in Europe.
If you're anywhere other than Europe and Japan, you register LightWave with NewTek (North America). If that is the case for you, you will need to hold on a bit until the link is set up for our site.
I mean thanks for your quick response Kurtis. I'm glad I don't have a serial number issue.
One other questions about LWCAD. It bills itself as:
LWCAD is mainly targeted to Architects and Artists who make massive scenes of towns with infrastructure and detailed buildings. Provided you do an architectural work, this is the "must have" toolkit for you. It will enormously save up your time in modeling phase and allow you to create very precise and professional models.
I'm not complaining, just curious, but the menu items and such don't seem to really match up with this specific feature set or am I missing something?
thanks again

Hey Kurtis, I realize that NT may need to reserve its marketing funds, but if you guys can swing it, this sure would be a good time to drop a few adds/banners in places like CGSociety, Computer Graphics World, etc....with this news.

I'm sorry but this seems to be a bizarrely asked question. Unless I am reading this wrong would not your question be answered with a bit of self-education with LWCad?
Yes, I may get a free upgrade but I have more than paid for it - nothing has yet been confirmed but Viktor Velicko has circulated this mail ............
Dear users.
Most of you are very confused since last Friday when Newtek starts offer LW+LWCAD.
Probably you regret that you bought LWCAD before.
I have to explain you, why I made this deal with NT.
First thing is that NT bought from me those licenses. I didn’t give them it for free.
Other thing is that they offer it as a free update. I cannot do anything about it.
I made it only for reason to enlarge LWCAD community as much as it is possible.
Right now I cannot guarantee you anything about update policy.
It really depends how successful will be offer LW+LWCAD.
But I can promise you that I will compensate you.
I am doing compensation for old Cap Hole Studio 1-1.5 users which has free update to LWCAD 2.
Soon or later, you will be also compensated.
Thank you for your trust.

I commiserate, I really do, but these things will always happen in these circumstances. Some will win and some won't. On this occasion I was the winner as I got it for free. Would I have bought it otherwise? Possibly not at the price, certainly it wasn't on my must have list more the nice to have list. Presumably your needs were different and at the time you paid for it you deemed it money well spent. Think of it in those terms rather than others getting for free something you paid good money for and you'll sleep better at night. :)

Hey Kuzey, what does the temperature have to do with you upgrading? What prevents you from buying directly from Newtek?
VML, that's the way it works from time to time. I JUST bought Adobe Audition 1.5 about 3wks ago, then 2.0 comes out. I may be able to get a free upgrade, but I may not...This happened with me when I bought Illustrator 10...less than a month later Illustrator CS (11) was released. They only had something like a 2wk window, and I missed it by a few days.
Some days you win...and others you lose. I'm sure he will compensate you, somehow, since he said he would. That's more than Adobe was willing to do.

well - this is very nice of this guy. It's a lot more than other companies would do. Never seen Comcast give me money back after I have installation and then next week say "new customers get free installation" after I just paid for it. It's how things work. Companies do it all the time.
BTW...
Is there official word that we do NOT get LWCAD 2 upgrade when it's available?
This is my assumption, considering version 1.5 is an unexpected bonus as it is. Just wondering if anyone heard anything official.
Also wondering, if we don't get v.2, how much to upgrade?
Methinks this plugin will be put to good use here.

Hi all, Like every one Im excited about LW cad, Im wondering though, will we have to be connected to internet to activate it? My home machine isnt online and I dont plan on that box ever being connected. Does anyone know if it can be activated without internet? I ran into this with norton ghost download version, I had to get a refund as it would only activate online. I hope someone can answer this, it worries me that more and more its required to be connected and I dont want that computer to be online. (I dont have internet at home anyway)

My understanding is that you will need to go online to download the plug-in, and to apply for the license key, but the license key is just a numeric code that can be typed in. It is not activated on-line.

The letter was from Newtek Marketing Dept..and it was nothing more than a "Heads Up" that this was coming. No link or anything (stated that details would be made available soon)...so I'm just sitting tight, waiting like everyone else. I wonder if they aren't delaying a bit in order make the LWCad download available at the same time as LW 9 Beta is released. Just a hunch.
However, those in Europe, have a registration link (for LWCad)...while we in North America are still in a holding pattern.

It was confirmed by Chuck I think. The jist being that we are now legitimate owners of LWCAD just like anyone who purchased it. It's not a special version and is therefore eligible for the same upgrade path as any other legitimate owner.

Yeah, did that, but still not clear :foreheads
Anyone wanna take a crack at deciphering this:
LWCAD update policy:
...
Update from version 1.5 to future version 2 will be paid.
Price for LWCAD 2 will be cumulative. But update will cost only difference between old and new version. If you are considering buy LWCAD now, you will pay the same price anyway.
Only owners of previous paid Cap Hole Studio version and actual LWCAD version have granted free update to LWCAD 2.

Here is my take on this:
Update from version 1.5 to future version 2 will be paid.
The update from 1.5 to 2.0 will be a paid version. So buying 1.5 will not get you a free update to 2.0
Price for LWCAD 2 will be cumulative. But update will cost only difference between old and new version. If you are considering buy LWCAD now, you will pay the same price anyway.
If we were to buy 1.5 for $200 and the cost of a full 2.0 is $300 then the upgrade from 1.5 to 2.0 is $100
Only owners of previous paid Cap Hole Studio version and actual LWCAD version have granted free update to LWCAD 2.
I guess those who bought Cap Hole studio and LWCAD (not the ones that got it for free I guess will get 2.0 for free.
I think I made it even more confusing. :foreheads

I understood it the same way.
So I guess you're not more confused than the average member here :)
