I use my vt4 each day, should I shut down each day? And restart each a.m.?

Ahhhh.... the age old question. Personally, I do. There is the heat factor as well as the bottom line that it uses electricity when it is on.....and in case you haven't noticed, electricity is pretty expensive nowadays.
Then there is the possibility of component failure and fire when you are not there.......
So I have a dark suite when I go home every day.

I agree with the shutdown at night.
All the drives and fans are mechanical and do wear out eventually.
Ther is the "power on surge" thing to think about, but I think mechanical wear outweighs it.
Talk to 100 computer "experts" and you'll get about 50/50 on this.
I always shut down our 6 computers for the same reasons Jim mentioned and a few more.

Ours runs 24/7 .. but that's ebcause the media raid is shared on the network for students to dump news packages ready for air onto.
We normally reboot before a live shoot though.

What happens if you are broadcasting 24/7. How do you squeeze in a reboot, at least once a week?
Wow, usually I squeeze it in when it crashes... :D
Seriously, your machine doesn't crash? I guess I'd suggest a second machine to switch to during reboot. If you are running 24/7 you really aren't doing this with one machine are you?

I dont see how I could pass on the transmission to a 2nd machine without interrupting the stream.

You would use a routing switcher to select one machine or the other, or to some other video source like a deck that runs a program while you're rebooting or working on the VT. To expect any switcher - computer based or otherwise - to be in operation 24/7 without some backup to switch to when reconfiguring or repairing doesn't seem like a very realistic plan.

I get the blue screen of death!!!! About once a day I think it could be the ram but I ran a ram test with sisoft sandra and it passed? Next, I think I'll go back to a backed up version of windows I have on another drive. Don't know what the problem could be!
*I just installed a new anti-virus program(Bitdefender 9) and Spy Sweeper and Zone alarm but I turn them off when I use toaster!

Can you elaborate on this "routing switcher". Is it piece of hardware, or simply another PC with software?
