We are trying to transfer our footage using VT4 capture to be able to edit using VT edit. the problem is that we notice a quality loss. On the monitor coming out the machine, the video looks great but when we run it through the Sx-84, you can notice the difference. I used composite and S-video. Is there a better way to transfer.

First of all, what codec are you using ? Any of the uncompressed codecs should give you pristine video, or at least the same as you're putting in. If you're seeing a loss before you digitize, I would check all the connecting cables first.
Quality loss is not one of the problems usually seen here, so I would guess you've got something going on with your cables, SX-84 or maybe both.
A quick check would be to run your Composite/S feed directly out of the deck into your monitor using the same cables.
If you are seeing a difference between going direct and through the SX8, you then have narrowed it down.
I'd use the SVHS out over composite if possible.
