Two questions:

1. The VT4 system requirements recommend an UDMA IDE system drive for program installation. Can anyone tell me why and/or whether or not a single SATA drive would work just as well (I'd like to pair the SATA with 3 SCSI Ultra320 15000rpm drives and place them into an HP xw8200)?

2. How difficult is it to set up a RAID array (as above, to be used with the 3 SCSI U320 drives)?

Thanks in advance,
George of the marina

Those are probably minimum requirements, George. Some here have been using the SATA's for video, due to cost. I have (4) of the 73gb SCSI 320 15k you mention and I have striped them as well as having broken the RAID apart for diagnosis. It is not a difficult operation.

You can use a SATA system drive for program installation. Currently we are only recommending 4X10,000 rpm or 3X15,000 rpm Ultra 160 or 320 SCSI hard drives. I have talked to tons of people who are using SATA configurations and people are still having problems with them. We are sticking with SCSI for now because they work properly and most of the time. SCSI is meant to sustain what we planned to use them for. We realize SCSI costs more, but it does the job. Please go by what we have on our recommended list to have things working properly. If you go with less drives or drives that are not recommended by us, we cannot guarantee your VT system will work properly.
