Hi,

I'm new with Lightwave (got it for 8 days now)
And I've tried some stuff and thought it might be funny to let some rings (which I accidentally created by removing most of the polygons from a ball and then bevel it once out, and once in) "twist around eachother" (don't know how to explain it in English. well here's my progress:

Too bad you can't see the camera movement because everything is black arround this. I have to think of an envoirement now.

Please give any ideas or tips for making this into something nice. :)

thx in advance

heh, interesting. Would be cool to see an environment and different textures and such.

Bigger version? as in, resolution? 800x600 is pretty decent size already; DV quality is 720x480. Unless you want to make it widescreen SD or HD or something...

Ok, I don't understand all you say but I'm working on a newer version that also has a 'base' to hold the rings. And some envoirement.

Does it take much shorter to render with 720x480?
I've rendered it at 800x600 and it took about 3 hours.
(AA = low, motion blur = normal)
I've got a 3.2GhZ P4 with 512mb ram and a Ati Radeon 9550SE (128mb)

- Another question: If I add 1Gig of extra memory to my PC.. will this speed up render times.. or does it at least allows me to have more polygons without 'lagging' ?

okay, I guess I could have been more clear...

HD, or high definition is widescreen by default; it is a widescreen format.

DV is an SD, or standard definition, format that has resolution 720x480. This is the standard vido resultion used in video cameras and DVDs.

It will render faster at 720x480, because there are less pixels to render.

Oke, I've found an image on the web from the movie "Contact"

http://contact-themovie.warnerbros.com/cmp/machine/20.html

This is the thing I want to create.. and now I've seen the image it's going to be a lot easier.. now I see that the 'rings' only use one rotation 'as' (don't know how to translate this to english :p)

I've made some more now..

It isn't the most beutifull picture (need more detail and more AA and a bigger reso  )

but It gives You a good idea of what I'm making:

Please give coment and suggestions..

thx and bye

Another Update..

I created a 'crane' and a "shuttle bay" (the thirth pilar)(after activating the first three rings, the outer ring will be turned on and boosted by 2 rockets attached to the outer ring.)

I am going to create more detail now

C&C welcome
