Sorry to ask this, but how do I get fog in an alpha?

This is probably asked a million times a year, but how do I get fog to show in the automatic alpha as a matte effect?

Could you explain a bit more what you are trying to do? On the face of it an alpha with fog does'nt seem to make much sense.

I was trying to get some Sasquatch lite hair to go behind some trees that used transparency.

Separating the trees to the foreground with a fog blend seemed desirable.

The long version would use global light at zero and fog+backdrop at 255 255 255, which I guess I should do.

A clip map was used to get a quick result.
