I am having a hard time getting scenes into Layout. I keep getting error messages about can not find Object/whatever.lws. I am given the option to find a different file, so I go hunting for the file it could not find.

Do I need to remove all files related to layout and modeling and then reload them?

Hi. I used to have that problem, too, but now I keep a separate folder for each project I work on. Inside that folder I have six folders named Images, Motions, Objects, Previews, Scenes and Surfaces. I set my content directory to the project folder, and it always finds them now.

Hope that helps.

It's a very rigid file structure. LW will only look for the relevant objects in the 'objects' folder inside what you designate as the contents folder (edit:set content directory).

You can either put everything into one big contents folder, or you can create a separate contents folder for each project and change the setting to that folder each time you return to work on that project from a different one.

Smudge has done a cool little time-saving Applescript (http://vbulletin.newtek.com/showthread.php?t=42637&highlight=applescript) to automatically create a new contents folders with all the necessary objects and scenes subfolders created each time you need a new one. I've found it very useful!

I've made it similar to DanUr (Scenes, Objects, images, scriptsNsets, _input, _output - the underline brings in- and output on top of the directory listing)

I've a content folder which is named "default" with all these subdirectoies and even the most needed images like a basic fractal/chrome reflection, hdri-kitchenprobe and the like.

For a new project I just need to make a new directory and copy the default dir into it.

I know, that duplicates all these images, but HDs are pretty cheap these days...

Hi

I also have a separate folder for each project with other folders inside called scenes, objects, etc BUT i don't "set" it as a "content directory". I just save the files and lightwave allways find them.

As long as I keep the folders in the same place and without any name changes, even when opening old scenes, lightwave finds the files.

Lightwave 8.3, Mac OS X Phanter

My content file is a mess, so should I just dump it and reload the files form my disks. I have nothing of my to keep. Will dumping the content file cause me problems?
