I've been tinkering with this concept in scattered bits of free time for a few weeks now... this is actually my second version.
There are parts of it I like -- but it really lacks the kind of oomph I was trying for. Can anyone see what I'm missing here?

Hi cathuria,
How about making the sun much larger, you know one of those gas giant type things with whispy flames and gasses. As if its dying! Also make it red, since the whole scene seems to be illuminated with red, and you have a yellow sun.
Also, the river(?) has white light reflecting on it, but everything else is more or less red. Perhaps change that to a shade of red and make it look steamy.
Hope this helps with inspiration.
i like it, altho it looks more like mars than the moon. i'd suggest losing the caps on the towers - makes it looks too Dr. Seuss.

I don't know about making the river-thingie red -- I'd like some contrast in the scene -- but maybe a little purplish would work...
lone: well, it's not our moon, of course -- and my vague notion was that the tower parts could lower and then all one could see on the surface was the hills...
Oh, well -- like I said, it was a vague idea. Perhaps I just need a little more detail -- and a better terrain model...
actually, your water already is reddish, i believe he was referrring to making the reflection of the sunlight match the sun's color. i think the terrain looks pretty good.

Looks like a planet side set from Farscape.

Howabout a character (troll, ogre, human..) sitting on a bank in the foreground with binoculars or something.
I think it's a cool idea.. .. some aircraft in the sky could help the viewer with scale issues

you might try some fake lens distortions or some blooms on the highlights. ;)
