View Full Version : Recording program out without CG
French VT

Hi everybody!
I searched before asking this question but I didn't find a real answer. So here it goes:
Is it possible to record a live switch without the CG on it? We need the CG for the live event but I'd rather not have it when I tape it.
I read somewhere that if I use the batch capture, I would be able to record "Main In", so no CG, but no DVEs either.
I'm not concerned about the loss of DVEs but I don't use batch capture. The live switch is recorded on tape (DVCAM with Sony DSR-45P, component), so I have no idea how to do it.
Can someone suggest something? Thanks for your help!

Hello!
Seams like we in Europe work diffrent from the people overseas, we would also like to have the ability to switch and record witout CG, but have the program out show the CG live!
Now you an select main row in your dv connections in prefrens, but then you loose the DVE´s...
thanks

Yes, Main In is the way to capture a 'clean feed', which is free of CG's, keys, and DVEs.

"Clean feed" in VT.. (meaning Program without DSK) ..not possible, sorry.
The only solution is to use a downstream (external, seperate) DSK for your live CGs.

Why do you say its not possible??
I have captured without CG and DVEs before with the capture panel. This assumes that your harddrives are fast enough to switch/playback DDRs and capture at the same time. You cant record this with an external device though, you must use the VT Capture panel(not batch capture) to record the feed

"Program without DSK" INCLUDES DVEs
"Main" is just the bus - cut's only, you can record that. (but only internally in VT, it's not available as an output)
"Clean" is the main bus AND the preview bus and DVE during a transition. - this is Program without the DSK. - you can NOT record this (unlike on a real switcher which does allow clean feed recording at this point)
"Program" is of course everything. - and this of course you can record with VT

Karine's initial post states that she is not worried about the loss of DVE's so this is doable for her needs. Just use Main In.

Thanks for your answers!
I tried Main In in the preferences but it didn't work... I still have the CG on the recording.
Could the problem be that I don't record on harddrive but on tape? Or did I miss something?
Thanks again!

YES!! You mustrecord to the harddrive to get a "clean" feed. When you record to an external deck, what you see is what you get!!
