Work in progress from a graphic novel called "Monsters Do Not Exist". Trying for a creepy, sinister looking mix between reality and cartoon - the artist from the story was just incredible, so trying to be true to it. Thought some more eyes on the pic would help make it better, so tear it up y'all! :p

Hi Maxx,

How about a low ground mist in the background, and then some weird distorted shadows in the foreground.

Like a shadow obviously from the post on the right bust distorted into some surreal shape?

Hope that helps with ideas.

Reminds me of the pirate luna park in Treasure of Monkey Island...

So I guess it's not so spooky, but hey, it's cool ! :D

Stewpot - I like the distorted shadows idea! I'll play with that - I'm modeling some characters for the scene right now. (read: I'm beating my head against the monitor wondering why the little kid looks like an alien.). Once I get them in the shot (or hell, I might just leave 'em out) I'll work on some shadowing. Thanks! :D

Flat - The Treasure of Monkey Island? Have you been smoking already? Sorry, I've no idea what that is - so I'm taking it as a compliment. If it wasn't don't tell me. :p Glad you think it's cool!

Oh, yeah - there actually is some ground fog in there, I just haven't tweaked it as much as I should have - I forgot about it totally....

Actually yes, my regular Camel pack. :)

Treasure of Monkey Island, aka Monkey Island III, is a game.
A completely hilarious adventure game, totally crazy, by the lunatics at LucasArts. It's also one of the best adventure games ever made.

...And it was a compliment :p

Phil, off to bed.

Ahh... okay! Monkey Island III is ringing a bell - never played it, but I do remember it. I feel better now. And thanks for the compliment! :D

You might consider using a little cooler lights too. That, and longer shadows would help give it a spookier feel. Right now, to me, it's saying I look a little creepy, but I'm not really scary. That might be what you want, of course.

Thanks for the advice! Lighting is really not my strong suit, so that's what I'm working on with this piece - I'll give a shot to cooling off the lights and playing with shadows. Gonna do a little nighttime observation this evening, so I should be able to update by Monday.

Thanks for all the comments and ideas so far!
