alright i'll try to describe this best i can.. i have a character that has a texture applied to an area.. which just happens to be this texture:

i have it applied to the side of the body as shown here:

my problem is that i have a bump applied to the body and i would like it to continue on to the green section of the texture i painted, but i dont want it to go all the way into the metal part of my painted texture.. so is there a way to apply a bump to an area like that? is there some way to mask off just the metal area? i know i could cut it all up and reshape the geometry and rename the surface, but i'm trying not to mess with the geometry..
any help is super appreciated as this is due on thursday!
thanks,
adam
