Woweeeeee!! I love the series so much, and series two is even better in my opinion. Your work looks even nicer on its own though! The house is my fave and the texturing on the truck is just spot on. The mud streaks are brilliant.
Congrats to you and the whole of the Indestructible Production Company... you have done a staggering job.
What does Jerry Anderson himslef think to the new series... i've never heard his response to it.

He'a always been totally thrilled with it, and on several occasions sent emails himself to all the team expressing his satissfaction and gratitude for the work that was done. So yeah, he liked it :)
I should point out that one Dan Edwards textured the pickup, I just built the model and base surfaced it. He then deep painted the mud on over my paint surface.
Cheers all!

Oh soooo true! I feel like i can only make a box or a sphere compared to these guys!
Anyway, do you guys who worked on Captain Scarlet have a fave episode? I would really like to know which one is your personal favourite, in terms of the story or which one you're omost proud of.
The DVD of series one is out now or very soon, so will be analysing them all over again!

I quite liked Rat Trap... had some of the nicest lighting seen in an episode I think, and I always liked the Mars Base set... the corridors were a cool design to build. The teams also made my Lancaster look pretty decent in Circles of Doom.
Although I haven't seen it, I'm told Syrtis Majoris a nicely done Epsiode. I did some sets for that too, but can't show any of that till the episode has been shown.
Cheers!
beautiful work , congratulation ! what renderer did you use ?

Very, very fine work. How long does this kind of stuff take you?
I'm kind of curious about the workflow too... Presumably there was a ton of stuff to get ready before the first episode, but after that you have a lot of the main stuff built and ready to re-use as required?

Thanks guys!
JML, it's all rendered in LW 8.3 :)
SB, sets and vehicles took tpyically 2 weeks to complete modelling, texturing, and a light setup for approval rendering. Exceptions were the muddy pickup truck (Dan Edward textured that one, and took 1 week to model)... and the Lancaster which was modelled & textured in 3 days (the team working on the episode refined/replaced/added to the textures). Props like the spectra-tec phone/scanner took 2 days to model & texture (the ep team then made sequenced textures for the dispaly).
In reality, every epsiode required a lot of modelling, and had surprisingly little re-use of existing models.
Cheers!
glad to know it was made with LW engine.
can we know what kind of light system did you use ? radiosity montecarlo, area lights.. etc..
and how long did it took for the interiors to render ? (at let's say 720x486)

None of the sets I built used readiosity in the renders, though some had area lights. Most sets were done so they rendered in around 30 minutes on Enhanced Medium... as that's what I always test rendered with until we got fprime. One or two were not so efficient, but lighting was the repsonsibility of the episode teams, who sometime sused our lighting as a starting point, and sometimes I guess just started over from scratch.
I think I am correct to say that the render time limit was around 2.5 hours for a frame, but the teams would always aim for the fastest possible. Howard may correct me here if that's not correct. ANd remember, everything was rendered in HDTV res.
Cheers!

Out of interest... is that on your desktop PC's or running through your renderfarm? My guess would be just through your desktops, (but i was wrong!!) :D
Thanks for sharing your fave episodes too.. cheers.

I'm pretty sure that was farm time, no workstation time.

Well, you guys are probably aware of this, but the latest SFX magazine has given the Captain Scarlet DVD set 5 stars out of 5, with particular praise for the visuals, including "it almost hurts to think none of this exists beyond a computer" and "there's a sequence where the Angels loop and swoop over the English countryside that may well short out your rewind button".

That's pretty cool. It seems well recieved on the whole by the audiences, with only ITV here in the UK totally failing to give it the attention it deserved.
I've added more stuff now BTW, and a little more to be added in the next few days (totally new website in fact!).
Cheers!
