DDR playblack is choppy

my VT[2] is new and still not running properly

when i play back a clip with DDR it seems ok for a few seconds and then playback becomes choppy - many frames are lost and the audio becomes very crackly - the clips speed up chaotically because all of the lost frames

the capture seems to proceed normally, but then when i play back the clip it's choppy with lost frames

here's my rig:
Win XP
Build 3890 VT[2]
P4 Processor
76 gb ultra 320 15,000 rpm scsi drives x 2
SX-8 interface
RS-8 switcher

i've turned off everything running in the background, i think

any ideas? thanks in advance for your help!

Mark,
Try going into Preferences and setting DDR playback to medium priority (default setting is low).

Also, make sure ToasterEdit is not open while you're attempting to playback from DDR.

i tried both medium and high settings but no difference

now i realize that it's not playback that's the problem, it's CAPTURE

i can play back some old avi files fine

but now for some reason when i capture (either rtv or avi format) i am getting choppy, incomplete capture with loss of many frames

this results in the choppy playback...

it's funny because i used to be able to capture fully; i'm not sure what i did. both avi and rtv capture seem to cause the same problem
